What Would Convince yoU to like Lamp Post micro caches?

I thought this would make a good series of topics, "WWCU (to change your mind on some fairly controvrsial topic)" So as the first of the series, i thought we should take up the LPC thing.

Here's how it works:

If you DO NOT LIKE LPC's, you would post what it would take for you to change your mind.

If you DO LIKE LPC's, you may counter the posts of the detractors to say how either you could perceive a cache that would satisfy them, markwell some that they would find satisfactory, or perhaps try to mitigate their objections and opinion, all based upon their "need" for being convinced.

This is kind of a spin-off from the recent "has a forum ever convinced you" thread. I will post the same question on other geocaching topics as well as perhaps in off-topic (for things like religion and politics?) if it seems to go well.

LPC's Have thier time and place. I like them at those times, and not so much the rest.

I could like them better if they were all big enough to hold swag.

I would like them more still at the end of the day if they contained a cupon for a free Ice cream at the local DQ, or a Free beer at the local watering hole. Heck even a free soda at the local qauickie mart. What great way to end a long cache day.

If every one in a parking lot contained a continuous supply of $100 gift cards to use in the nearby store. :P

Move the lamp post from behind Wal-Mart to a nice location, and then hide the final cache in an ammo box at least 500 feet from it at an even nicer location. And then don't place another unless it's 50 miles from that one and not hidden in the same manner. That's the ideal LPC.

Actually, these things seem entirely doable.

Most lamp post skirts are big enough for an Altoids tin, and the caches could be THEMED for trading coupons or certificates for the nearby stores.

As with most themed caches though, the theme would probably diminish significantly after a few finds.

i am actually considering placing a back woods LPC. All I need is to get ahold of a lamp post skirt (legally) and it will be out in the woods I go. :P

Ever see Chronicals of Narnia? If the lamp post was in a location such as that one was it would be awesome. I don't want to get involved in some weirdo war with a bunch of talking animals and a nasty sorceress but a lamp post out in the woods would be way cool.

The first time I found a lamp post micro I thought it was one of the most clever things I had seen. The first time........

If did not feel that I was defacing someone else's property by looking for it.

If a police would not stop me for questioning if they saw me looking for it.

The owner of the property was aware it was there and I would not have to end up explaining why it was put there if I was questioned.

If it was an original concept designed to entertain me instead of hidden just for the sake of hiding some thing.

If I could honestly find something positive about the cache (besides it's existence) to put in my log to thank the hider for his or her effort.

I was in town today and I turned on my GPSr, something I don't often do because I really don't care to look for urban caches when I am by myself. :P

After finding a couple of caches on my GPSr screen, next to roads where there was no parking, sometimes for more than a block in any direction because of Bike Lanes and other restrictions, I would have loved to have found an LPC. :anicute:

Yes, LPC's have their place... like when you are travelling cross-country and you want to get a cache close to the highway you can get easily... if you don't know the area, then a parking lot gives you that cache for the state (Rest stop caches do that too... few are scenic, though). Last summer we drove to Baltimore and back.. and on the way back, we went through 5 or 6 states in one day... and got at least one cache in each state! (West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and down into Tennessee, I think. If I remember correctly, we picked up 10 caches that day, also.)

Other than that, we mostly ignore them. Yeah, we might pick up a few if we are in the area, but we sure aren't going to make a special trip to get one!

The satisfaction of finding a very cammo'd cache like a pine cone must be immense. Scares the crud outa me thinking that one day I might spend hours looking around for something like that. LOL.

When I find those kind of caches I usually exclaim FTF! in it's alternate meaning.

If the lamp post was in a more intresting place than in the middle of a parking lot. No great views, few if any animals, no nice wooded or grassland areas (the shrubs in a target parking lot do not count as a forest, sorry).

They would be alot better if there were fewer of them to detract from the value of the other caches in the area. Not to mention any names, but there is an area near where I live that has about 20 of these things in a 5 mile radius.

Is it a surprise this one has more replies than 'wwcu your GPSr'? :P

Never done one before,so I'll let you know if I like em or hate em.To be honest I've looked at google earth and I don't think there's one within at least 20-30 miles of me.

That pretty much says it for me.

LPCs are nice after a DNF

If all of them were hidden with explicit permission.

If even the slightest grain of thought were utilized in selecting the location.

If they didn't breed like rabbits.

If they were large enough to hold a full sized logbook.

But then, we'd need to find another ODiouS cache poster child. Might I nominate Hide-a-keys on guardrails?

Doesn't that one already have an LPC by now? Satellite reception's a bugger there, though. It's kinda' hard when there aren't any satellites.

LPCs would be great if there were few enough of them that they still surprised me enough to seem clever.

Well, if you're using "Lamp Post Micro" and an euphemism for a lame, uninspired cache then I'm not sure there is anything that would change that except make it not lame and uninspired.

Otherwise, if you're going to take "cache hidden under a lamp post skirt" on face value then I'm not sure I have a problem with it in the first place. I can't remember where it is, but there is a small park on hospital grounds that could have had a LPM--I don't know as we DNF'ed it--that was actually pretty cool. The park had a bridge over a pond in order to get to it and had one of those floating granite ball fountains. I'm not sure if any manner of hide would have ruined the hunt--heck we didnt' find it and still liked it.
