meat tenderizer for wasp stings

A few weeks ago, I got stung by a yellowjacket. I was in someone else's car when it happened.

First thing that I thought: "meat tenderizer!" Somewhere in my memory was something I read that if you made a paste out of meat tenderizer, it would help the sting.

So I asked that I be driven to the nearest grocery store. Got some plain meat tenderizer and some bandaids. Made a wet paste out of the stuff, and put the paste and the bandaid on the sting.

Darned if it didn't work. No swelling AT ALL the next day. It was as if I never got stung in the first place. I was surprised.

I am going to try it on mosquito stings and see if it makes those go away too. :(

Meat tenderizer breaks down proteins in the meat. Sting venom is a protein.

When I first saw this topic, the first thing I thought of was taking a meat tenderizing hammer to the wasp.
