Maps of Ireland for Vista

Recommended Posts

We are caching in Ireland this summer (Wo-Ho!), and want to buy maps for our eTrex Vista. I was looking on eBay, and there seems to be a product called City Navigator, and another product called MetroGuide.

Price doesn't matter much, because I can just sell it again after our trip.

Is there anyone here that has a copy of compatible software they would like to sell to other Geocachers?

CN is not resellable in the normal sense, as the unlock codes are tied to your GPRr. MG is resellable.

Here are some free topo maps for Ireland. I am new to GPS and geocaching so I haven't been able to try them yet... the sites seem reputable. Oh yeah if you are buying maps for Ireland make sure they are NavTeq V9. Ireland had been poorly mapped before V9 maps. Enjoy you holiday!

NavTeq V9:

If you are interested (and have the time) an Irish radio show did a piece on the quality of GPS maping in January 2007. You can check it out here: http://www.rte.ie/radio1/quantum/rams/2007/18january.smil You need real player. Fast forward to 8min 17sec for the bit on GPS maps in Ireland.

I used Metro guide V8 for my trip to Ireland last summer and it was great. It had all the roads and POI's I needed. Although the road signs showing directions to towns over there is way better than here in the States. We drove from Kinsale up the West coast to Galway then to Donegal. To get back to Kinsale we drove back through the middle. Beautiful country, enjoy your trip!!
