+GPSteeve
Hello, I updated the unit software (eTrex Vista Cx) to version 2.70 (from 2.60). Since the update, when a geocache is selected as destination, I can scroll through the pages (map, trip, etc.) until I reach the compass page. Then the unit is "stuck" there until I stop navigation. The problem does not happen if I select a normal waypoint (ex. my house). I "downgraded" the software to 2.60 and it's working properly. Did anybody notice the same behaviour? Quote Link to comment
+Tersanyus
Ok, I have a Venture Cx and see this issue. When I select a Geocache as the destination but choose "Off road" so the Venture just "points" to where the cache is I get stuck on the compass page. The Compass page using "Off Road" has buttons for Found, Note and Stop at the bottom. If I choose "Follow Road" it will calculate a route ro the cache. The Compass page does not point to the cache but points to next turn and does not have buttons for Found, Note and Stop. And I can go to other screens. I will hopefully get to cache this weekend and I will see if mine gets stuck on the Compass page when auto routing but when the route is over. I have only had my Venture Cx for a little over 2 weeks and have not cached with it yet. Mine came with 2.60 from the factory. I put 2.70 on it when I read it was available on here yesterday. May also help to note that I have City Navigator NT 8 on my Venture Cx. You didn't indicate if you have any map software loaded on yours. Did your GPSr get "unstuck" by itself when you arrived at the cache coordinates? Quote Link to comment

I have a 60Csx but had maybe a similar issue with a recent upgrade. It turned out that for some reason "quit" (and maybe "menu" as well) would not work on the Compass page, you had to just page down to get back to where you wanted. Maybe that is what is happening on your GPS. Garmin then more recently posted another upgrade to the 60Csx which corrected this. Try that and see if it works. It doesn't fix the problem but at least you can leave the Compass page. Maybe Garmin will correct it like they did on the 60Csx. Edited May 4, 2007 by dsshepard Quote Link to comment
+GPSteeve
Tersanyus, you have the same problem I have. I can add the following information (after updating to 2.70 again): - I have Topo Canada installed. However, I also removed the maps (in fact, I removed the memory card). The issue is still present. - When I reach the cache, I get the message "Arriving at..." but the unit is still stuck on compass page. Until I press Stop or Found. I'll inform Garmin so they will (hopefully) find a solution. Thanks Quote Link to comment
+RugerShooter
I also upgraded to 2.70 and noticed this you can also get back out of the compass page by hitting your menu buttom twice. I hope Garmin gets this fixed quick I like some of the other features that they added like being able to select custom POI's and select at what zoom level you can see them Quote Link to comment
+TantalCZ
I own Legend Cx and have same issue as you. When I use off road navigation then stuck in compass mode. If I press next page button nothing happen. I found that I can change page if I press page button twice - go to Menu and then to map, but when I go to compass it's same. This issue have since I upgraded my fw to 2.70 so I'll make downgrade to 2.60 Quote Link to comment

+Red90
The funny thing is they did the exact same thing to the 60/76 units in fiormware 3.20 and fixed it in 3.30..... Crazy. Quote Link to comment
+GPSteeve
I infomed Garmin of the problem (via their website). Since they've made that mistake before, at least, they already know how to fix it. Hopefully, it won't take long. Quote Link to comment
+TantalCZ
Unfortunately, when u use manual downgrade (without webupdate service) that seems GPS will be reseted so save all your points, caches, routes and tracks first. Quote Link to comment
+GPSteeve
FYI, after describing the issue to Garmin, I got the following e-mail. Thank You for contacting Garmin Product Support. I am happy to help you. We recently have been aware this is a problem. The engineer group is expected to address it very quickly. I beieve you will see another update release in respect to this issue. Keep an eye on the website for this new update. If there is anything further I can assist you with , please let me know. We'll see how long it will take. Quote Link to comment
+2Wheel'in
I'll throw my hat in the ring too...have the same problem with 2.70. I contacted Garmin as well and received the following response at 8:02 this morning: Thanks for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to help you with this. I have not heard of that issue yet. I would attempt to re-download the latest software version, and see if this corrects it. Best Regards, (name edited out) Senior Outdoor & Fitness Support Specialist Garmin International phone# 1-800-800-1020 fax# 1-913-440-5488 email: techsupp@garmin.com Hopefully the response citing the engineering department being aware will take precedence and we'll see a patch soon. +2Wheel'in
Just wanted to add a follow up. In addition to the "compass page lockup" I also noticed that both the compass arrow, and the map page "spin" when the GPSr is stationary/not moving. I found Ver 2.60 on the web, downloaded it and installed it on my Vista Cx and the problems are gone...at least those are. I think I'll just wait until Garmin comes out with a software patch for 2.70 before I do any uploading. Bill Quote Link to comment

+Jeff in Pa
I recently became a Preimium member, (although it doesn't show here yet) I was having trouble using GSAK so I went with Easygps and I get the 30 character limit, I guess that will have to do till I get a PDA. Quote Link to comment
+Chuy!
Jeff, if you have an X Garmin, you can use POIs which have a 44 character limit on the name and an 88 character limit for the description/comments. Use GSAK to create your gpx files and Garmin's POI Loader to put them into your GPS. I too have the stuck-in-compass-page "feature" on my Venture Cx when I upgrated the firmware. It's a slight inconvenience but since I like the added features with the POIs, I'll put up with it till Garmin fixes it. Quote Link to comment

Thanks Chuy but I have worked and read for hours and I still can't figure this out , from what I can tell the character limit would be awesome but also the ability to create sub-folders like the Magellan has would be great! If anyone wants (please ) create a short tutorial for dummies like me on how to do this I would be very greatful. BTW I have a Vista CX. Thanks, Jeff Quote Link to comment
+Jeff in Pa
Does this thread help? Well I thought it would, Must I be upgraded to 2.70 for this to work? Otherwise no. I have worked at this for a long time and normally I am very good at things like this, I have install custom POI's but all I have are the alarm info and I can't seem to delete them. To start with, how DO I delete these? Thanks, Jeff Quote Link to comment
+Jeff in Pa
Also all I get at the end of the POI loader is an error that read's... There was a problem coping to the data card. The device is not ready Quote Link to comment
