HOGCAT Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I surly hope someone can help me out. When I try to update Mapsource, it comes up in a window that says (unable to find change description file) but ti gives an option to ignore this and download anyway. When I do that a small black screen pops up and says "the NTVDM has encounted an illegal instruction"!!!! Any ideas??? What would happen if I removed the whole program and reinstall it???? Quote

The newer updates no longer work with Windows XP. I have Windows XP on my desk top and could not update MapSource. However, I have Windows Vista on my lap top and it updated just fine. Quote

HOGCAT Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 (edited) Thanks mach2003, the link worked and downloaded fine. I am running XP and it downloaded fine. I tried the "search" function and got pages and pages of info. Felt like asking was easier for me, and it worked. Next time I will read all the pages first for a few hours before I "just ask". I'll have to try running it at home. I know when I tried to update my desk top I'd get a window to open, then everything would stall. I closed the window and went to Garmin's web site and saw that the following about 6.12.3; Notes: WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product. This version of MapSource no longer supports Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows NT. Works with Windows Vista. Duh....after posting I see that XP is not listed as not being supported. I'll have to try the link above, maybe that was my problem. Edited April 26, 2007 by Team LPD Quote
+Dryphter Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Had the same problem so I went to the Garmin website and just downloaded the whole thing. It was like 48Mb versus the 4 or 5 MB that the update was. No big deal on a broadband connection. After it downloaded the update ran fine. Quote

Used the link to update MapSource on my desktop Windows XP computer last night without any problems. For some reason when I had tried to update it using the "check for updates" in MapSource it would stall. All good now. Quote
