+TexasGringo Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I'll never invest in Geocoins because they get ripped off from crooks. So, I have one that is been gone for almost a year...not checked out...or in. I've marked it missing but it still shows in inventory. How do I get rid of it? Just recently, 2 more Geocoins are missing too...not checked out or in. Quote
+TexasGringo Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 Never mind...it is gone. It took a while for the "Mark Missing" to catch up. Quote

+Cpt.Blackbeard Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I have four new coins i just purchased, I'll never release them for that very reason, they are so beautiful I know they'd be stolen and never seen again so I'll just have my own private collection. Quote
+geospyder Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 I gave mine a proper burial in a foreign cemetary - Isle of the Dead - Australian TB graveyard (GCHGX5) Quote

Keystone Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 "Mark Missing" removes a geocoin or travel bug from the holder's inventory or from the cache page inventory, as the case may be, and puts the trackable in an "unknown location." If it ever turns up, the item can be grabbed without messing with its mileage. I can also move this thread from Geocaching Topics to the Geocoins forum without messing with its mileage. Quote

+Bunya Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I gave mine a proper burial in a foreign cemetary - Isle of the Dead - Australian TB graveyard (GCHGX5) If only it was a "proper burial"! Apparently some "icon hunters" have been known to email the original owner of coins placed in the graveyard and ask for the tracking number so they can "resurrect" the coin as plastic copy. I'll stop there as my comments on this would get me banned for a while . . . Quote
+Hula Bum Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 Not all coins get stolen and it is a lot of fun to see the happy logs when they are found. get one and send it over the pond, they do quite well over there. Quote

+forthferalz Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 yeah - you don't just need to bury them here! I've got a coin that wants to leave home - I'll send you an adoption notice Quote
+007BigD Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Yeah Dont give up hope yet! I just love watching mine travel! Try making them more personal by engraving them (what I do) or drilling a hole in them with a tag. Give them a clever little mission and description- My next will be a mountain traveler, in hopes that it stays deep within the mountain ranges, it should stay put just fine too! Its fun to see if the missions can be fullfilled and to see the logs of a nice coin that someone was pleased to find of yours...Then the pics are a bonus! Ive onlyhad one of mine turn up gone and I watched it walk off with a newbie that a newbie I introduced to caching showed the cache too. Funny thing was when they got to my shop and told that they had visited my cache (I dont even think they knew it was mine) and I asked about a coin and they both looked at each other with a blank look and said "yeah I grabbed it- I liked it" he said he would drop it and never did- Its floatin around jersey somewhere.------SO with my short experience I would say that newbies play a good role in the coin dissapearing acts rather that the crooks. +GeoLobo Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I dont put my coins in caches. Instead, I print a 300 X 150 image of my coin showing the front and back. I then have a small note at the bottom describing its mission and the coin tracking number. I lamenate the picture and drop the lamenated coin cards in caches. This works great! I have yet to have a lamenated card stolen - and I have all my coins safe and sound in their 3 ring binders here at home. <SMILE> GeoLobo I'll never invest in Geocoins because they get ripped off from crooks.
