How do you get pictures on your cache page?

I have never placed a cache before until now. The cache is placed and I read all of the "rules and regs", but when I filled out the application for review, under the long description, I cut and pasted all of the words, but I couldn't get it to accept any pictures. How do you get the pictures on your cache page? Also, is there any way to see your actual page before it hits the web? I would appreciate any info. Thanks in advance. :laughing:

Pictures have to be uploaded somewhere and then you need to use HTML to add them into the page.

You have to enter the cache first. Click the link to go to the cache page itself. You will get an email that will give you a link. On the upper right, you will find a link to upload an image. Follow the directions. It isn't too bad. Then, go back to the cache page and add the appropriate HTML to add in the photo you have uploaded to the site.

Here is a site for HTML code.

If you don't check the box that the cache is active, you can submit it, view it, adjust the code, etc. until you get it just right. Then, check that box and submit the cache for review.

Also, make sure you check the box that the cache description uses HTML.

I often upload pictures to this page then right click the larger image to get its "address."

Thanks to both of you, BUT, I am a total incompetent when using the computer. I copied everything both of you said and will try to figure it out tomorrow. My next question is: If I goof up on something and my cache is approved, can I go back and change it? :laughing:

mtn-man gave great advice. Just don't ask him about pictures of ponies or hamsters because he seems to have a mental block about that.

There are also some good resources in the FAQ thread that's pinned at the top of the Getting Started forum. There's one post on adding photos to your cache page, with step by step instructions, and another post that links to a tutorial specific to beginners who are building cache pages.

To answer your follow up question, you can edit most of the things on your cache page after it's published, except for the cache type and for big jumps in the cache coordinates. Dressing it up with better photos or HTML is generally OK. (I say "generally" because there are exceptions, like if the added photo or hyperlink is commercial in nature.)

I can give you a good example.

To make a paragraph break add:

<p>

I usually make a paragraph space and add that "<p>" in there so the page flows for me as I type it.

For a picture, the code is just like this including the <> brackets.

You can see that I am hosting this image on my web site.

<img src="http://www.mtn-man.org/images/stuff/hamstersdinner.jpg">

The image will display on your cache page as in my example below, which shows what I fed the puppymoster for dinner tonight.

You can post your own picture in this manner. Just substitute in your own photo web address (or URL). You can get the link to images you upload to GC.com by clicking on it. It will open in a new window and then you can copy the web address in the address bar.

Just make sure you check the box that says the page is in HTML just above the short description.

Wow! You guys are awesome! How do you know all of these things?

I will print out all of the info tomorrow and try them out.

Thank you all so much for your help, explanations, and tips. I had no idea about all of these things. It looks really complicated, so I am sure it will take a while to do, but I'm up for the challenge.

I would just like to THANK mtn-man, Miragee, Keystone, and puppymonster for all of the help on getting the pictures to load onto my geocache site. With help from my son, and all of your information, it is completed and up and running. We did the best we could do. It wasn't exactly as I had planned, but I guess it is okay for now. I am sure as I learn more, I will be better able to adjust the site. If you want to take a look at it and make some suggestions, the name is Lil' Sinoquipe. THANKS A MILLION TO ALL! ;)

I am absolutely delighted that the guidance provided by the moderators was of assistance to you. Your page looks just fine. All that it lacks is a photo of a cute, cuddly hamster.

Take, for example, "Fang" who is shown below. I'm training him to hunt down snarky puppies. Fang would be a handsome addition to any cache page.
