bushwackin' schmo
My question is, if I plan a CITO can we pick up trash AND for example paint and repair a fence? Before I get beat up, it's for a good cause and not at my house. 'Schmo Out Quote Link to comment
Trucker Lee
Why not. Community service is just that, if the fence needs repair, and serves a valid purpose, like keeping cachers out of someone's property or from walking over a bluff, by all means it should be repaired if time and materials are available. +MissJenn
Heya schmo! Yeah, why not include other activities also, in addition to the litter pickup? Some parks ask folks to paint new trail signs, and other places pull invasive plants, etc. Quote Link to comment
The Blind Acorn
I'm excited about the potential for an on going relationship with the park people where my CITO is on Saturday. They have a list of "needs," so often times you may find that the park manager or whomever is in charge can help you find opportunity to give back. It is supposed to rain here Saturday, but I have firm commitments from at least three people that they will be there despite the weather! Quote Link to comment
huskerrich2000
Apparently, a C I T O event has to involve litter cleanup, our area recently had an event archived because it involved tree clearing from ice storm damage. Quote Link to comment
The Blind Acorn
Maybe MissJen is around and can clarify? I can't believe an event would be archived because it involved tree removal??? The last "natural disaster" we had was flooding and gee, trees were removed as trash?!?!? Quote Link to comment
MissJenn
I do not know anything about the event that huskerrich2000 is talking about, but I trust that the reviewer worked with the cache owner, and there must have been a solid reason to not list the event. Quote Link to comment
KerBear
we did more then just pick up trash yesteday. we also cleared out firerings. but we had trash removal as part of everything. not sure why it'd be a problem to do more at a cito. the park ranger was glad we spent some time in this area.
