FINDING CACHE LISTS

Most caches have already been found . . . around here, the FTF (First to Find) race is pretty competitive.

If you become a Premium Member you can sign up for the Insta-Notify feature. You will be notified immediately when a new cache is published. Some people have that programmed for their cell phone . . .

Dont swett the small stuff, just becouse it has been found allready doesent mean that there is no fun in the hunt. sometimes it is better if the cache has been found a couple of times just to get the bugs out of it and cords better. sometimes there are better clues in the comments also.

Most new caches get found within a few hours or a few days of being posted. If the last finder rehid it in exactly the same place and manner - then it will be sitting there waiting for you to find it with the same thrill as the first finder's.

If you are interested in trying to be the first finder - watch out, many areas have very stiff competition to get there fast. You need to be prepared to head out anytime of day (or night) with very little notice. Many times you will see others at the site trying to find it first.

Other areas - like rural areas - a new cache can sit for days or even weeks without a find.

Maybe you are misunderstanding geocaching? You said you and your wife are new and want to start looking for caches... so it sounds like you haven't done any hunting yet.

When you look for a cache, you aren't necessarily looking for unfound caches. Everyone is out looking for the same caches. When you find one, you sign the log book along with everyone else who has found it. When you find a cache...you MIGHT be the first one, but more likely many will have found it before you did.

The newer the cache is, the less people will have found it. The logbooks grow and grow as time passes til they are full and get replaced with a new one.

If you are wanting to be the very first person to find a cache...good luck! You have to either not work or be able to get up in the middle of the night prepared to night-cache.
