+speakers-corner
A Ding for Yorkshire Yellow. Gift in English means poison in German. Edited July 20, 2016 by speakers-corner Quote Link to comment
+Yorkshire Yellow
Wow! What a lucky guess! I did learn German in year 3 at school. but don't know if I had that stored somewhere in the back of my mind. Quote Link to comment
+Yorkshire Yellow
The silver once mined in which Devon village is found in some of the Crown Jewels? (Note - Feel free to consult a map if you're not overly familiar that part of the world. I may 'point you in the direction' of the correct location if/when needed, by reference to previous guess(es)) Quote Link to comment
+speakers-corner
North devon, Ilfracombe Quote Link to comment
Pajaholic
AIUI, all silver won from that part of the N. Devon coastal belt is known as "Combe Martin Silver", no matter whether it was actually mined in Combe Martin. So I suspect that YY might be looking for "Combe Martin". However, I suspect that Speakers Corner is technically correct in that case as the silver might well have come from Ilfracombe! Quote Link to comment
+Yorkshire Yellow
Combe Martin = ding! Quote Link to comment
Pajaholic
Thanks. Staying with Hele Bay etc. -- Back in the 1950s and 1960s, there used to be a paddle steamer ferry service between Ilfracombe and which Welsh landmark? Quote Link to comment
+speakers-corner
The shortest and direct Connection should be Swansea Quote Link to comment
+Yorkshire Yellow
Barry Island? Quote Link to comment
Pajaholic
I'm going to give the DING to Speakers Corner as the landmark lies within "Greater Swansea". For completeness, the landmark is The Mumbles -- specifically, Mumbles Pier (51.568995, -3.976743) Over to Speakers Corner Quote Link to comment

Pajaholic
Thanks. Staying on the subject of cheese ... For the next ding, name the Cornish cheese made from cows' milk, and wrapped in stinging nettles, which become part of the rind as the cheese matures. Quote Link to comment

+hal-an-tow
A warm head ? Could it be wearing .... a hat ? Hat sizes are weird, but I think they are probably simple inches rather than a fancy scale, but I'll say hat. Quote Link to comment
+Beach_hut
Another clue - it can't relate to the entire population. Edited July 31, 2016 by Beach_hut Quote Link to comment

+Beach_hut
Hmm,head, not hat, amount of hair, baldness? That's close enough for a ding - the Norwood scale is a measure of male pattern baldness. Quote Link to comment

+Yorkshire Yellow
Sorry, forgot to refresh the page before posting. Quote Link to comment
Pajaholic
The most southern location on mainland Australia? That'd be Wilson's Promontory, in Victoria (a couple of hours drive from where my son now lives). That said, it does sound like it should be in Australia, so I'll guess at the most northerly point on mainland Australia! Quote Link to comment
dodgydaved
I seam to remember hearing this term when my son had his appendix out. so my guess will be the appendix location A cuttingly good answer from martin&lindabryn. Two thirds of the way down a line between the umbilicus and the superior iliac spine (and I don't think I have trotted that description out since about 1965!) Quote Link to comment
+martin&lindabryn
Thanks for the ding For winning, which TV game show would you be awarded? A toy, a tankard or the BFH. And for a bonus ding, what was the BFH Quote Link to comment
+Yorkshire Yellow
That sounds like the darts based show "Bullseye". Not sure what the "BFH" was though. Quote Link to comment

+Yorkshire Yellow
Your next question: - Before adopting its current name, which band was known as 'Pectoralz' and then 'Starfish'? Quote Link to comment
+Yorkshire Yellow
Quiet on this one... Would you like a clue? Quote Link to comment
+hal-an-tow
Quiet on this one... Would you like a clue? Hmm, looks like you've hit a topic which is not a specialist mastermind subject for the usual suspects on the thread ! I dunno, the final 'z' on the earlier name suggests something quite recent, so I'm afraid I can't even make a semi intelligent guess. Quote Link to comment
Pajaholic
I've heard the name "Starfish" as a pop rock band, but I can't remember what they renamed themselves to. If pushed, I'd try Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Maroon 5, Coldplay, The Script, etc. Eeny-meeny-miny-moe ... I'll guess "The Script"! Quote Link to comment
