+Simply Paul Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I'll leap in with a question as NB's gone off-grid. There used to be 20 or more up and down the country, but only 6 are known to remain. One of them is beside a road in Norfolk and it's known as the Langham Dome. But what was the Langham Dome used for? I'll drip-feed clues 'til someone gets it. A bit of kit ahead of its time. Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I'm here. Do I win? Yes, DING Your turn to ask the next question. Quote

War history hopefully paying off here, they where used to train anti aircraft gunners during the war. Images projected in the inside and the trainees used lights to hit the targets. Quote

+MartyBartfast Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 If you were travelling from (say) New York to San Francisco via the panama canal, what direction would you be travelling when going through the canal? Quote
+keehotee Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 If you were travelling from (say) New York to San Francisco via the panama canal, what direction would you be travelling when going through the canal? West to East - assuming you took the shortest route Quote
+eusty Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 South as Panama runs parallel to the equator. Quote
Pajaholic Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 If you were travelling from (say) New York to San Francisco via the panama canal, what direction would you be travelling when going through the canal? Although you'd be going from the Eastern seaboard of the Americas to the Western seaboard, the Panama Isthmus itself runs approximately East/West and you'd be crossing that at almost a right angle. So you'd actually be travelling approximately due South when navigating the canal. Edited to add: Darn it! That'll teach me to write reasoned responses! Nice one, Eusty! Quote

+MartyBartfast Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Back to sport for this one, but I'll keep clear of rugby Which football team has held the FA cup for the longest continuous period? The Mighty Pompey (Portsmouth FC), they won it in 1939 and held it until the FA cup resumed after the war. Quote
+MTH Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 DING! They didn't win it again for another 69 years, but would have only waited for another 2 years for the next win if it hadn't been for Chelski. Given the current state of the club it may now be another 69 years to the next win - if they can survive that long! Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Sticking with Portsmouth, the historic dockyard is the home to three famous fighting ships from different eras, name two of them. Quote
