2. The name of the ship that James was commited to the deep from?
I thought it might be worth a guess, but having looked it up on IMDB I don't think anyone could guess it, so unless someone's got the book or film handy we could be in for a long wait....
Spot of luck! I have the Ultimate edition right in front of me; £5 from HMV. The name of the ship is F65, or at least that's what it says on the side... However, the slow pan over the crew lined up to see James off shows a life belt enscribed 'HMS TENBI', by the look of it. Odd name.

As I like movie stuff, here's some film quotes featuring numbers. Just name the movies :)

Either the person who gets the most, or the person who gets the last gets to set the next question. You can decide which between yourselves.

2. "There's a 95lb Chinese man with 160 million dollars behind this door."

3. "We'll leave as soon as you're ready. Docking bay 94."

11. "How many did he say?" "76". "76." "76..."

12. "Are you kidding?! Page 73, Johnson, Nathan, R!"

14. "This is the worst fake ID I've ever seen. You realise you've made yourself 68?"

15. "Children of wives not in favour with king. Err, 67, I think".

16. "Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64?"

17. "And we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had 15 homicides and 63 violent crimes as if that's the way it's supposed to be!"

Darn - that means I have to think of a question...........

OK - let's get things moving again - first person to think of a word in common English usage that only exists in the plural - and doesn't have a singular form (also in common English usage) gets it.

(it's easier than it sounds) ;)

Trousers?

Though I suppose they are singular at the top and plural at the bottom ;)

It sounded as though it should have been Andy Capp but we were not sure...

OK, although we know nothing about the game, a football question:

The football league started in 1888 with 12 teams. Name them and the first league champion. Ding either to the person who names the last or the one with the most correct; we will see how it goes.

Since we are the top of a page we will reiterate the rule of no googling

AT LAST A QUESTION I CAN ANSWER

Accrington Stanley

Bolton

Derby

Notts County or Notts Forest....I can't remember which

Preston North End

Wolves

I think either Barnsley, Bradford, Blackburn or Burnely were in there too.....it begins with a 'B' anyway.

Fortunatley for us all the mighty Hammers (Thames Ironworks) were formed in 1895 and joined in 1919.

This question came up while H was listen to Tony Butler on BBC WM... the drive home from work needs something to break the monotony.

So far we have the following right answers:

1. Accrington Stanley - TLHM

2. Bolton Wanderers - TLHM

3. Derby - TLHM

4. Notts County - TLHM - We'll give you that one

5. Preston North End - TLHM

6. Wolves - TLHM

7.

8.

9.

10.

11.

12.

There are also two more right out of TLHM Bs but we are not going to say which two :D

Don't forget we want to know the first winner too!

C says as a hint that they are all roughly from the 1800s' industrial triangle.

PS Nice try FMB but the Scottish league did not start till 1890. Apart from QOTS you got six of the original 11... obviously we wikied :D

Link to comment

That's another one... but Aston Villa were not the league's first winner.

So far we have the following right answers:

1. Accrington - TLHM - Checking back Accrington and Accrington Stanley were rival clubs

2. Bolton Wanderers - TLHM

3. Derby - TLHM

4. Notts County - TLHM - We'll give you that one

5. Preston North End - TLHM

6. Wolves - TLHM

7. Aston Villa - MartyBartfast

8.

9.

10.

11.

12.

BTW Sheffied Wednesday and Ardwick FC (the forerunner of Man City) were members of the rival Football Alliance, started in 1889 and absorbed into the Football League in 1892.

All done:

1. Accrington - TLHM - Checking back Accrington and Accrington Stanley were rival clubs

8. Blackburn Rovers - Wrighty

9. Burnley - Wrighty

10. Everton - Wrighty

11. Stoke - Wrighty

12. West Bromwich Albion - Wrighty

As Wrighty noted, Preston North End won the first Football League Championship (without losing a game) and also the FA cup of that year, being the first team to complete the double.

I make that 6 to TLHM, 1 to MartyBartfast and 5 to Wrighty but Wrighty got the winner and was last to answer...

I think we will give the Ding to Wrighty... next question please :D

Following on with another Grand National question - sorry!

In 1993 the race was officially declared void after the horse and riders broke through the starting tape and did not pull up to restart. The jockeys continued to ride the full distance of the Grand National Course.

What was the name of the horse who passed the post first?

Also can you name the jockey and the trainer of the horse?
