The All New All New Groundspeak UK Pub Quiz

Recommended Posts

I actually knew an answer - I've been quietly following this since it started!

Mind you, am I supposed to wait for the Ding from Dorsetgal?

My question:

Name the two grounds in England that have staged both International Football and Cricket Test matches. Both are still used for one or the other.

Hopefully it'll get answered quickly because I'm likely to be away from a PC over the weekend, hopefully picking up my hundredth cache among other things.

Then again, SP could ding for me.

The Oval is one, no idea about the other though

I'll have a guess at Trent Bridge?

Woohoo! I've beaten Nediam for once!!

It's Bawnmuff.

I hesitate to ask, in case I'm being dim, but what's Bawnmuff ?

Note to Forester: Firefox 2 has spellcheck capabilities so you can make sure you spell nationalities, countries and place names correctly!

Great link to flashearth though! lets you switch from google maps to microsoft virtual earth etc. great for comparing aerial photos for the same place from different sources.

OK I'll go for the Oval and The Valley, Durham's home ground.

The Oval and Bramhall Lane, Sheffield??

The DING goes to SlytherinAlex (Though there's no 'H')

REALLY going back! - 1883 for an England Scotland game (Scotland won 3-2) and 1902 for an England - Australia Test. Of course even then the Aussies won. Bramall Lane is quite a historic ground - It held the first floodlit game, and if not the first, certainly one of the earliest Radio commentaries and also one of the first televised games.

Us unitedites really have to cling desperately to SOMETHING!

over to you Alex

I remember going to Bramall Lane as a kid to watch footie. The football stadium was three sided with the cricket pitch on the fourth side. Very strange.

So staying with football, here's one straight out of a pub quiz that I did once.

Name all the suffixes of teams in the Football League.

ie, Town, United, City etc... When I did this a few years back I think there were 23 or 24, but with new sides`coming out of the Conference that may have increased. (Harriers)

Have a go, some of them aren't obvious without looking them up, which of course you aren't allowed to do in this quiz.

Have I and Dorsetgal mentioned all the teams and you want us to eliminate a few or are we missing one or two?

And, does Rutson having "Town" twice have any relevance? :)

Any chance of a hint as to what the number of teams is? Please Sir, Please :):):)
