Banned Geocachers

Recommended Posts

OK, so we've been caching for nigh on a year now, but this is the first time we've ever come across them - and only because one of them has picked up our TB and deposited it in TB Hell

Who can tell us about banned cachers? How do they get to that state? And, more importantly, how come they can still log finds?????

Looking into it, I think that this cacher was banned by Groundspeak after some very intemperate exchanges with a Reviewer. I'm pretty sure they can't log finds but it appears they were banned AFTER they logged your TB.

If the TB is still in circulation you can grab it back but if they've stolen it I'm afraid that's it (unless you have the duplicate tag).

Sorry

Your TB was placed on the 20th March according to the logs. Could they have been banned since that date? They last logged in on the 28th.

Banned members are accounts that have been locked for abuse of terms and conditions, for example 'site misuse' which can apply to bad mass TB logging.

In this case, I cannot tell exactly what has happened, Zion's Purgatory is a new cache owned by this person. They have about 16 TBs there. (You can check from their moved list)

Contact the reviewer for the area to see what can be done about this. They should be able to release the coords to a local cacher to go on a bug rescue mission if this is required.

Why would anyone want to get into an argument about caching????? This is a SPORT, an enjoyable pastime to share with one's family and friends

My TB was retrieved on March 16th, discovered by a 'relative' of the cacher in question on March 17th, then supposedly placed by the cacher in question in an unpublished cache called Zions Purgatory (the name says it all) on March 20th. The cacher hasn't logged a find since 20th March, but their 'relative' (now banned) last logged a find on March 24th.

I can make copies of the TB tag etc. and grab the TB back if that's the right way to go about things, but it does make you lose faith in humanity when people can be so nasty and mean (Badger #3's words!) about this sport.

I suspect the cache doesn't actually exist - just a listing created to drop TBs into.

Thanks Edgemaster and minstrelcat (as an aside, this was Badger #2's cat's name!) BlueDeuce gave me a hint as to who the local reviewer might be, so I've sent an email. But to be honest, it's now made me question pretty much anybody on GC.com (except those I personally know), and that is a sorry state of affairs.

I do realise that bugs and coins go missing (which is partly the reason why I haven't yet released a coin that I own), but I'd never come across 'banned cachers' before and was interested to learn how this type of cacher could come into being.

I guess I can only place my faith in human kindness, write my TB off (having grabbed and re-incarnated it  ) and hope that this is a rare occurence, rather than the norm.........

I've seen it for harassment of others (of non-geocachers believe it or not), posting pornographic material, placing micros in woods, stuff like that.

Fortunately it's a rare occurance and most cachers are very nice people.

The banned status depends also on the person your dealing with on Groundspeak.... If you deal with ''the little god of geocaching :):) (i wont name him here) '' your case is lost!!!!!

I know some cachers who were mistreated....some drunk driver are better treated <_<:anibad:

Since your posting in this thread resulted in a lock-down I have to assume you are trying for geocide by moderator.
