+highlander179
OK, so I just ordered a 60CSx to use while hiking, motorcycling, kayaking, ect. I understand that the base map is lacking and that I will eventually need to buy more maps. Living in the northeast USA, what software needs to be added to my must have list? Thanks in advance Quote Link to comment
+Always & Forever 5
I recommend City Navigator North America, v8. You can find this various places, in stores and online, for around $100 or so. Then, use GSAK and/or Cachemate for paperless caching, and you will be more than ready. Have fun! Quote Link to comment
+Paulsan
Garmin Topo USA for hiking comes in handy. My base map didn't have local resevoirs on it. Quote Link to comment

Thanks in advance Also if you're going to be spending a lot of time off road you may want to look at the US Topo set. This is the 1:100,000 set that is the basic USGS Topo maps. They also have the 1:24,000 more detailed maps but only of the US Parks. Plan on getting a larger SD card or spending more time then you'd like changing maps. I put in the 2 GB sandisk and was able to load the entire US worth of city navigator plus 2 states worth of Topo maps. The only downside to the Topo map is that it's in so many small sections that the limit wasn't storage capacity but the number of file names that GPS could deal with. Quote Link to comment

+embra
No. You can use your GPS to display your position on a laptop with Streets & Trips, but the S&T maps will not work on your 60csx. You need proprietary Garmin maps. Quote Link to comment
