Eques3n Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I was reading the Cache Listing Requirements/Guidelines and noticed the following as being Off Limits: Caches on land managed by an agency that prohibits geocaches, such as the U.S. National Park Service or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (National Wildlife Refuges) I am a little confused due to the fact I contacted the administrative personnel at the Shawnee National Forest (mailroom_r9_shawnee [at] fs.fed.us) and this is the reply I received: Thank you for your interest in the Shawnee National Forest. There are no regulations prohibiting this activity, but it is not encouraged. So, is it acceptable to place a cache there? I don't want to get mixed up between the US Fish and Wildlife, National Park Service and the Forest Service. Also, in case anyone could not locate the information regarding placing caches on land administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, here are the guidelines: http://www.dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/P.../Geocaching.htm Would there be any issue placing a cache IDNR managed properties if the guidelines are followed? +Arndtwe Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 as long as you have permission it's ok to put a cache anywhere. the guidelines are so you dont get your self in trouble. they say you cant place in national parks and places like these. this sipmly not true, you place a cache on property such with, like i siad, permission. i would be careful what you get into though, you might find your self worse off than before. oh, and this should be in the illinois forum. +mtn-man Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Yeah, probably so. I will move this to the Midwest forums. FYI... you are talking about the USDA Forest Service. Generally they accept caches unless they are in Wilderness Areas or Natural Areas. The reviewer for Illinois will know the details about your area. I would bet they will chime in. Quote
