+JohnTee
snip, snip http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.39 Kit with AC adapter + Car Adapter cheap! Ordered one of these to see how it works with my PDA. Also ordered an $8 MP3 Payer for my son. We'll see what the quality is like. JohnTee Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
I've dealt with their predecessor, fifthunit, before. The quality isn't great, but it's good enough. Don't expect these to become family heirlooms. For things like the parts Lee_rimar called out, an ipod sync cable, some replacement CR123's or a belt clip, I figure I can break/lose 10 of them vs. the namebrand equivalents and still come out ahead. I'm way more likely to lose them than I am to actually wear out even a mediocre one. I won't testify for the precise products being cited and I can't say I've dealt with them in their current incarnation but for something like this where you KNOW the bill-of-materials cost is < $1, a $3 wall wart vs. a $30 wall wart (that I'm exactly as likely to leave in the hotel room...) has some appeal. There's an engineering adage that says 'Sometimes "good enough" is.' Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
I picked up a pair on Amazon.com. Probably the same low quality but 6.50 = or - a bit, for the Plug in and a matching Car Adapter seemed like a good price. The trend towards USB charging as being a standard is a good thing. Less cables and adapters to worry about. Your third link beats the heck out of what I found on Amazon. Smaller and cheaper. If I hadn't already gotten the one I did I'd pick it up. I don't work for Deal Extreme and haven't actually tried this item yet. But I've been looking for something like this for a while, and at this price I'm planning to get a few of them. Just thought I'd post an update on DealExtreme . . . I ordered the above iPod USB/Car/AC Charger . It's intended for an iPod, but I'm using it for charging my Palm Tungsten E2 and am very happy with it to date. I'm using the 110V and 12V USB chargers and gave the iPod/USB charger to my son to give to one of his friends that has an iPod. Incidentally, while I was there I ran across MP3 players. My 13 year old son lost/misplaced his. Wasn't planning on buying another one for him. Turns out he's going on a class trip to Washington, D.C. and, nice guy that I am, decided I was going to help with travel boredom. They had an MP3 Player/SD Card Reader combination for $8.00, with free shipping. He's been very happy with it. So, I spent less that $15 for the two items above and shipping on one. Yeah, it won't last forever, but it's an inexpensive way to get there! I was actually impressed enough with the little MP3 Player, that I'm ordering another for myself. I've been using my Palm as an MP3 player and often have to disentangle my headset or exit the program to use it for some of the things I REALLY need it for. I'm going to try using this little cheapy when I'm out mowing or traveling and stop using my Palm. JohnTee Edited April 13, 2007 by JohnTee Quote Link to comment
