zonata
My family and I have recently jumped into this geocaching thing and have had a great time. We own a small pizza joint in our home town and thought it would be a nice swag item to drop 1 gift card for a free small pizza in every cache we visit. I've read somewhere that advertising is not allowed, which I believe to be a very good policy. But would leaving a gift item such as this be considered crossing the line? My motivation is in just having something nice to add to the cache, as well as the fun factor of seeing a card returned from time to time. We also hand write the cache waypoint label, the date and sign the back of the card. This way, if one ever does come back, we know where they picked it up from. Fun for us, good for them. All that being said, I would hate to be one of those people that abuse this hobby. (I first mentioned this in another thread but decided it deserved it's own post) Thank you for your input, zonata and gang Quote Link to comment
Kealia
As long as you don't require any purchase, I don't see a problem with it. One in EVERY cache? Hope you don't find too many! Look at some people's find counts - could get very expensive. Quote Link to comment
flask
i thnk of it les as advertising and more as a gift; what you have to share happens to be your own pizza. i think it's lovely and generous. Quote Link to comment
briansnat
The no advertising rule is more geared to the placement of caches. You can't place a cache that solicits. Though there are some common sense rules about what you should place in caches (no knives, alcohol, food, illegal stuff, etc...) nobody is out there policing what goes in caches. +Renegade Knight
Free Pizza? The only way it would be better after a long caching day, is if we could phone it in and while we wait find the cache in your parking lot. Quote Link to comment
Totem Clan
To go along with what briansnat said, you can put almost anything you want in a cache, but I wouldn't like to find a cache full of advertisements. (Although truth be told that's no worse than a bunch of broken McToys.) What you're suggesting (free pizza) sounds great to me. Quote Link to comment
StarBrand
Wow - free pizza!!! Sounds like the perfect lunch for a hungry Geocacher. Great trade item. No problem. Quote Link to comment

zonata
Ditto: Your sig item would be A+ swag in my book. Well, I guess that answers my question then, it seems to be an acceptable thing to do. And by the way ZSandmann, it actually isn't my sig item, just a gift card. My sig item is a dog tag with a snake on it and the words zonata and gang. Here's a view of it latched onto our TB - "Crush" Quote Link to comment
ZSandmann
That's a really nice sig as well! Quote Link to comment
zonata
That's a really nice sig as well! Thanks for the compliments. Here's the picture I took - and used for the sig item. Lampropeltis zonata multicincta Too bad it couldn't translate over in color. zonata Quote Link to comment
mikeslomka
Is it "red on black, friend of Jack...red on yellow, kill a fellow"?? By the way, I would love finding a free gift card for pizza. You would be my favorite cacher finder ever!! Quote Link to comment

Lefty Writer
Can you start caching in SE Texas? I'll have a sausage, peppper and extra cheese pizza, some garlic bread.... .....and a diet Coke. Sounds like a great trade item to me! Quote Link to comment
minxyy
yummmy sounds like a super idea for fammished geocachers? Has anyone any reasons for not putting catnip mice in a cache box? thought they'd be great for children and cat lovers alike but wouldn't want the beautiful caches muttled! happy cacheing minxy ps we're in the uk if you want us to drop any "free pizza" cards lol Quote Link to comment
magellan315
I'd pass on the catnip mice, anything that has a scent will attract animals. On the other hand the scent of pizza will attract Geocachers, I'm moving to Kersnville. Edited March 15, 2007 by magellan315 Quote Link to comment
