Just About Time To Do Maintenance On My Caches...

Well, it finally hit 40 degrees here in Madison, Wi. The snow is starting to melt some and soon my caches will be accessable once again (Not burried in snow or Frozen into the ground).

Got to get ready for the Geocaching Season by replacing pens, damaged log books, clean out junk and make sure the caches are hidden as before.

I take some pride in my caches...do you?

All three of mine are within a quarter mile of my house, I can and do check them fairly frequently but not often enough to create a trail. I was very surprised this winter to see my Fossil Creek hide completely buried under snow, and it was still hidden last night after all the warm weather we've been seeing. Because of where it's hidden I thought it was the one cache that would never be snow covered.

In addition to checking on caches when a maintenance issue is reported, I typically set aside a day to check them in the spring, and also again in the fall. I do it in the spring to make sure the containers made it through the winter, that the logbooks are in good shape (not wet, damaged, or full), and to clean out the trash, both in the cache and surrounding area, and restock it if needed. In the fall I do basically the same to ensure that it's ready for winter.

If I happen to be in the area I'll usually check on my caches, but I don't make regular visits to each one. If there is a reported problem though I try to get out there within a week or two at the most, unless its a minor issue.

I've did maintenance on some of mine today and will do the rest tomorrow. The thaw is hitting high gear here. I tend check on my caches a lot more in the summer. Winter slows things down some.

If going to hide a cache I'm going to make sure it's the best it can be.

Absolutly. I want my caches to be in tip top condition at all times. I check them regularly and I hope that people post something in their log or email me in anything if damp or out of order etc.

I only have one, so far. But I drive by it almost daily. I have three others put together and ready to deploy. I am searching for interesting locations. Placement is crucial, and deserving of adequate research. I intend to perform periodic maintenance of the cache and the surrounding area as well (removing trash and covering human sign). If someone is willing to expend the effort to locate my cache, then I am willing to make it as enjoyable an experience as I can.

Awww spring cleaning.I will systematically check my caches. The snow has gone from town.I have cheched on those caches. As the snow melts in the mountains I will check those as soon as I can. Some of my caches will still be covered with snow the first of June.I picked up a few ammo boxes during the winter to replace some plastic containers with. Some day all my containers will be ammo cans but they are hard to come by in my area.

My caches have been buried under several feet of snow the last two months. Last week it hovered around nine degrees. Yesterday it was forty and Tuesday it's supposed to be fifty degrees. Sheesh, crazy weather. Global warming? If it stays like this I should be able to get to those caches with no problem. Maybe that groundhog did not see his shadow after all.

Well I trudged through the snow/slush and finished off my Spring maintenance this afternoon. Now I need to start getting ready to hide a few more. Of which I will take great pride and care, of course.

Great motto towards your caches. We have checked all of our caches in the last two days. Got to swing by one again to weed out the junk, but everything looks great and ready to go!

Snow metlted enough for me to check FC last night. it was right out in the open, hadn't even been tucked back in let alone re camoed, difficulty would have been a 0.1 instead of 3.

Looking inside I found a travel bug that isn't listed on my page so iooked it up. and it says it is in a TB hotel in Arkansas. Should I just grab and drop it, or try to contact the last finder to see if he forgot?
