+Team chelmo Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) HELP, Please. I know there is a surplus of coins being minted at the present time so I guess I'm just floating this Idea to see what thoughts, ideas, help or suggestions are out there. I would really love to have a coin minted and have some ideas on design, BUT I don't have the $$$. The design would represent New Zealand and would not necessarily be a personal coin, it would be great just to see my design in cirulation. There is another NZ coin in the pipeline (by an organisation) but from what I have seen my idea would be different enough from theirs. Any thoughts? +S&G.Davison Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) Just thinking - the UK is almost diametrically opposite New Zealand - we could have New Zealand on one side and the UK on the other. Maybe place Stargate Caches to complement. I know - probably nothing like you original idea. Sue (Edited to add - or even part of a series of diametrically opposites.....) +chaosmanor Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 HELP, Please... I would really love to have a coin minted and have some ideas on design, BUT I don't have the $$$... Any thoughts? We definitely empathize with you, as we are in a similar position. We have kicked around the idea of a PC, but the money to do one is just not there. Lots of people don't like pre-orders, which we can understand, although we don't share that hesitation; we've pre-ordered many coins and have never been burned. Basically, I think you have two main options. The first is to borrow the money from someone; a relative or some other "angel" who sees the potential. The second is to do the pre-order thing, which gets you some cash up front. The problem with this is that you will have to pay for the artwork, dies and other set-up stuff on your own, "up front", as almost no one is going to pay for a coin that is three months down the line. At least you'll be able to factor this cost into the final price of your coins Most pre-orders are for coins that have an approved design and even samples of which you can post photos, so that the coins are only 2-3 weeks from delivery. You should write to a couple of coin producers (don't ask for suggestions, as I have no working experience with any of them; just pick two or three at random) and ask them for some basic information. Explain to them your situation, and ask them if they have any suggestions. Just about all of them are in business to make money, but this isn't their main source of income, so they generally listen and respond to intelligent questions. This being a small "niche" market, they have to be able to work with you, so you should get some good advice. Maybe you'll even find a way to make your coin Just be patient and give them a few days to respond; many of these people have "real" jobs, with geocoin minting being a side-line. Good luck! Quote
Team Macha Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I think if you want to do a personal coin but not so personal just join some of the groups that are making coins IE the top 40 or the Geo Jellies. I think UOtrackers are making geocrayons in the summer. Each will be personalized and will have your name and personal color on it. they are a nice way to go and they are much cheaper. Quote
+BRoKeN W Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 There are some coin producers willing to give you free coins, and/or money for your design (but they'll get unlimited production rights and they'll front the cost). If that is something you are interested and already have a design drawn up, you can send them e-mails asking them if they are interested in taking on a project using your design. Hope that helps you a bit! Quote
general_tupperware Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 If it's not a personal coin, split the cost with some others who are interested in your design. Quote
