jabawokee Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Hi Does anyone know what size microsd card i would need to use to get all the uk topo maps on? Thanks, Jabawokee. Quote
KlustaDuk Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I use a 2GB microsSD card with all the UK Topo v2 maps on. I can't quite remember, because I fiddled with one or two of the map tiles containing purely sea, but I think it weighed in around 1.7GB of space for all of them. With a couple of lower detail world maps as well you don't get much space left on a 2GB chip. Hope this helps. Quote
Pharisee Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I recently loaded the whole of the UK Topo onto my 60CSx. It took approximately 1.6Gb of a 2Gb microSD card. Quote
The Wombles Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Likewise; you'll need a 2Gb card for all the UK Topo maps, although this does leave some space for other areas (I added the US West Coast to mine). Quote

Sensei TSKC Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Any idea where the cheapest place to get a 2 Gb SD card is?? Saw them on eBay at £17.99 Quote
LollyBob Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 (edited) Amazon are doing a 2GB card for £5.94 Any idea where the cheapest place to get a 2 Gb SD card is?? Edited March 1, 2007 by LollyBob Quote
Bob Smith Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Be aware that generally the cheaper the card the slower the response. Bob S Quote
NickandAliandEliza Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Thanks. I actually meant 2 Gb micro SD cards for a Garmin 60csx. I was just going to find the cheapest one - but judging from the responses above, it may be too slow (I have no patience!) Is anyone able to recommend a make and store? Quote
KlustaDuk Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 My MicroSD 2GB chip and USB2 reader came from here. You can probably squeeze another couple of quid out of the prices elsewhere, but generally this is pretty good. http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?p...048%5FBundleBuy Quote
SidAndBob Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I have England and Wales on a 1GB Sandisk card. I've stayed away from 2GB as until very recently they were 3 times the price (or more) of 1GB and I haven't been to Scotland since I don't remember when. I have just bought a Kingston 1GB card for £6.39 delivered from w2w.com though they are taking a while to deliver it. I will use the second card in my pen drive when I'm not in Scotland. My son has a Nintendo DS which also utilizes MicroSD cards, so we have a faster SanDisk Ultra II also. Do NOT buy a SanDisk Ultra II for your Garmin as the Garmin fries it. I can speak of this from first hand experience. Garmin have now eventually announced this incompatibility. The other thing is that the prices are falling so fast at the moment that it's not worth spending a great deal as you'll probably find one in your cracker next Christmas. Quote

The Extreme II is NOT recommended by Garmin for the 60CSX.. it will damage your unit. Though they mention the Extreme II, I would be very wary of even using SanDisk non-Extreme versions. Quote
limawhiskey Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Excellent all done no problems and a fraction of the time using the additional card reader Can I ask how you downloaded maps to the card without using your GPSr? Is there an FAQ for this somewhere? TIA Quote
Walker Dan Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I've looked at various San disk micro sd cards and can't find the extreme card I am being warned about for the 60csx but can see Ultra 2 cards and also cards with no reference to Extreme or 2 but are "transflash" cards. Can any learned person please give a definitive to what is and isn't ok for the Garmin 60csx. Ta. Quote

Can any learned person please give a definitive to what is and isn't ok for the Garmin 60csx. Ta. SanDisk Ultra II is a faster card, but is NOT compatible. See my post above. Garmin took a long, long time to tell us this was incompatable, by which time I had found out the hard way. I've never heard of SanDisk microSD Extreme. I have the regular SanDisk (1GB version of the one in shr00m's link) and this works perfectly. I am not aware of any statement from Garmin that this card is not compatible. Transflash is the legacy name for the media type. It really denotes a slower card, but is often used interchangably with the term microSD. Quote
SidAndBob Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Excellent all done no problems and a fraction of the time using the additional card reader, That's cool, but I wouldn't advise buying a card reader for this if you don't otherwise need one. The 2GB card will hold the whole of Topo, so you only ever need to do this once. Quote
limawhiskey Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 SanDisk Ultra II is a faster card, but is NOT compatible.Does this still hold true even though the changes in the new firmware includes support of "version 2" SD cards? Quote
SidAndBob Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Although I have and Ultra II I certainly won't be trying to find out if it does work now. Quote
limawhiskey Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Anyone feeling brave? Perhaps Garmin CS would know. Quote
Midnight Ramblers Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I have always used an Ultra II in my Garmin. Admittedly, that is only since October. You guys have me worried now - should I replace it? Or would I have noticed the problems by now? Quote

jerryo Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Sorry to drag this up again but have we got a consensus about which microsd card to use yet, please? Quote
drsolly Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Sorry to drag this up again but have we got a consensus about which microsd card to use yet, please? I just buy whatever's cheapest. I just got a 4gb card for £20, I can't remember the brand or speed (but I always format them with large clusters, 32kb or so, because that makes them work faster). It's working just fine, I got it from Scan. (www.scan.co.uk). Quote
