+TeamBELA
Sometimes our Magellan seems to be way off. One of the last caches we found in Ridgecrest, Ca. was approx. 30' from the posted cords. What gives? Quote Link to comment
Keystone
30 feet off is entirely within what geocachers consider to be "normal error." I'm going to move this over to the GPS Units and Software Forum for you. Quote Link to comment
+TeamBELA
Ok. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
30 feet is not way off in the world of consumer grade GPS units. 30 feet is pretty darn good. Even if you had a $5,000 industrial grade unit that is precise to within inches, you still might find yourself 30 feet off because the person who hid the cache could have had that much error in his unit when he hid it. Yep, this is correct. After draining a good number of Sierra Nevada Pale Ales tonight (none of the dodgone distributors here carry their Pilsner), I wouldn't disagree with anything he says. +Team Dubbin
You also need to remember that the person that placed the cache also has a GPS that isn't perfect. Quote Link to comment
