Number of coins to order

I'm new, forgive my ignorance. I think that I am hooked. I've already ordered 2 different coins in just a couple of days. Do you usually just buy one or more? I feel like I need to order

1 for us

1 to trade at a later date

1 to leave as a FTF or to celebrate milestone finds

1 to release to the world (for trackables)

Ouch that's going to add up fast! What do you usually do?

I started too late to get fluttershy's latest (think I missed them by just a few days!?). I see there is a one in a local cache. I'm off to find it today, so I can at least collect the icon!

Ha! There is no reason to buy 4 of each coin!

I'm on a limited budget, so I just buy one for my collection. When I had more money, there would be a few I would buy 2 of. Some coins that are of an unlimited minting just aren't great traders.

I don't release a lot of coins in the wild. I have trouble keeping track! I don't buy any just to use for FTF. I usually have some extras laying about for that.

So buy what you like and can afford. Most of all: Have Fun!!!

Sure, you can start at 4x a pop but you'll find your credit card will get maxed out pretty fast. Or you can activate the ones you own so you can share icons with others, get the occasional extra for gifts (my girlfriend's son is building his collection off of me) or when the desire hits you release the extra one into the wild. That can keep your expense down (down to 2 now), especially if you also dip at the e-place well.

I've bought extras that are available commercially and sometimes from the coin makers thinking I'd re-sell or trade them. After seeing auctions of others end with no takers on commercial ones I decided that releasing and giving away the extras is more fun (and worth the effort).

Gets pricey rather quickly doesn't it. Just when I say no more another great one comes along. I tend to buy 1 of each in the set to keep, then 1 additional coin as a travel. But you're right - keep thinking about the need to buy more to be used for other coins for those that are only available via trade. Our own coin is still some months off which of course could be used for that.

My husband just thinks I'm daft !!!! and keeps saying there's another one through the mail box, where are you going to put this one.

I usually do not buy a coin to release as it will 9 times out of 10 get stolen, so I have stopped doing it. I usually do buy two of each and then use the extra for trading, and I do sell them on ebay quite often. Because people are willing to pay so much more on ebay, (for god knows what reason) you can usually pay for both of the coins by selling one.

I agree that 4 would be great, but I don't have the funds for that!! I only get one at this point. If I want to turn it loose, I make a color copy (I know this is a contentious point for some people).

I don't have the funds to support 4 of each either! I'm in the "1 for me and maybe 1 for trading" camp. And I may release one of those as a copy. But as for giving someone a coin for a FTF prize, I wouldn't do it. I think that FTF is one of those "bragging rights" sort of thing, and that should be enough.

I disagree I have 10 coins traveling and only one has gone missing so far and it was the caught redhanded coin (go figure) The other 9 are still traveling

I have left a few coins as FTF prizes I enjoy leaving them in a newly placed cache for others to find and keep or release them,It's there coin now to do with what they please I know they enjoy finding an unactivated coin as a FTF prize. I have found 2 unactivated coins in caches so far and they were not FTF prizes as the caches I found them in have been listed for a while.

I usually buy 2. 1 to keep & 1 to travel. I've had good success with my travelers, but that's a whole other thread. I think you will find that as you start collecting you'll end up with some that you can trade & some that you can use for gifts. DON'T look at eBay until you have been buying them for quite a while. You can not buy them all. Well, most of us can't buy them all. If you start looking at eBay, you will spend too much money in a hurry. Just stick with the forums. You will be much happier & you will still end up with an awesome collection! That's my nickels worth.

Order some personal coins of your own to trade, buy one of each and activate the coin to let others log at events

I'm already toying with this but it seems pricey. Not saying they aren't worth it just don't know if I can spend that. But then again I've already spent about $50 this week ordering multiples of just 2 coins. I thought, "Oh, I'll just get a couple I like". I'm on the list for another and have found two more today that I would love to order. Wanting 4 and being able to afford 4 are two totally different things. Something will have to give or hubby will ring my neck. There are all just sooo cool and pretty and shiny and ooohhh addicting.

I'm a new cacher. Would it be wiser to mint a Buddyluv4 coin or a generic "really cool" coin that doesn't have Buddyluv4 on it. We are new to caching and I am thinking others may not be interested in buying/trading for a newbies signature coin. From reading some stuff here and at cointracking.com it sounds like you can sell some to help defray the costs and then hold on to the rest to do with as you please. True? Either way I need to get more experience/knowledge of coins under my belt before I jump in with both feet.

I would suggest that you get 3.Try to figure out which ones are going to be very popular.(recent ones would include ,ANY compass rose,Dorkfish,Chili Pepper, and others)Keep one, sell one,(At E-bay,or similar) and with luck your 3rd one will end up being free.

We started doing this about a year ago(1st Dorkfish coin),now at any given time we have 20-40 coins on E-Bay,and a HUGE collection at little or no cost!

GOOD LUCK!!

I see you got the Fluttershy coin! It's one we released! the geocoin thing can get pretty addictive and expensive as you well can see. I usually order 2 of each, 1 to keep and 1 to either trade or release, but that's just me.

Boy, it seems like another coin comes out every couple of mintues. I'm definately going to have to scale back so I can order a bigger variety. When I first started looking there were only a few I like, the more I look the more I find. I wish I could have purchased the fluttershy, but I missed out. But no fear, I will move this one on. I went to the cache today just to collect the icon.
