+Outback2970 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Can someone who has fixed the rubber band on a garmin legend with good results please tell me what you used to re-fasten it to the unit? Mine is gooey and sliding around, and I'd like to repair it myself. It is still under warranty, but I hate to send it in and be without it for weeks. I do have some really good 3M two faced tape about 1/2" wide and very thin. I found the link to the .PDF screen problem repair, but he doesn't go into detail about reattaching the rubber. No, I don't know what the root cause is, only that it seems to be a fairly common problem with some of these units. Whatever they use for an addhesive seems to turn very gummy after a relativly short period of time. I suppose they don't want to use anything to permanant because they need to split the case to do work internally, and the seam is under the rubber. Quote

+Trappistbrew Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I know this may be a late response, but I had the same problem with my Legend. I cleaned off all the goo with goo-gone and used an automotive gasket maker to seal the Garmin "rubberband" back in place. It has worked perfectly. TZM Quote

revrnd Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 My Legend Cx has done the same (bought new last July). My previous Legend & Etrex never did this. I wonder if they changed the glue? I'll be sending it back in a couple of weeks, when I have a period of time I won't be using it. Quote

Our temperatures have been in the mid eighties, and every time I use the unit, things get pretty gooey. I talked to Garmin today, and they recommended I send it back, and that the turn-around time would be seven to ten days. Quote

gpsblake Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Both my Garmin B&W Legend and Legend Cx had this problem but were heavily used on my bicycle. A few drops of super glue or Gorilla glue and the problem is gone forever. Quote

+DustyWalker Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 The only thing I found that would fix mine is Loctite Extreme. I fixed my Vista with it and it is still holding. It doesn't melt the plastic, etc. and can be removed if need be. Anything else wouldn't stick. Just be careful with it around the buttons. Quote
