+57tbird Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 (edited) A week ago I came across my old R/C monster truck. It was originally used to deliver cold "refreshments" from the refrigerator to myself on hot summer days on the patio. But that's off topic for the purpose of this post. I got to thinking what a neat project it would be to interface a GPS'r to some electronics that would in turn control the servos of the truck thus turning it into self guided geocaching machine. Just pop in some coords and off it would go. With refinement, it may even be able to find a cache, open it and sign the log ! Just the thing for the lazy geocacher ! I even thought of a name for it: the "FTF-2007" I wondered though, had anyone done this already ? Oh, you betcha ! Researching, I ran across this which, in turn, led me to this. I thought the community might find it interesting. Cache on ! Edited February 10, 2007 by 57tbird Quote

What if we included a flamethrower with an automated "Seek and Destroy" mode for lame micros.... --MGb Quote
+gof1 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Someone starts a thread about a cool GPS gadget and the first response is about flaming micros. Quote
+WyoBigFish Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Check out the Robo-Magellan stuff. http://www.robothon.org/robothon/robo-magellan.php I hadn't even thought of having it be an auto cache finder. Might make finding some of those tough ones a little easier. A week ago I came across my old R/C monster truck. +Geomancers of the Coast Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 It would seem to be a creative way to be stealthy, too... Just hold a fake R/C controller while watching it find the GPS coordinates while onlookers just assume you're playing with an R/C vehicle... Quote
+Thrak Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Just totally cool. People who can conceive of, design, and implement things like this totally boggle my mind. Thanks for posting this. Quote

+Groovy Cachin' Dude! Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 It would be fun to download several waypoints into its "brain" and then follow it around. A great ice-breaker for the muggles we all stumble into. Most people are really fascinated by robots...I remember a little show about how robots would battle to the DEATH! Quote
