New Memory Map Product

Recommended Posts

Just seen this new navigation product by Memory Map.

http://www.memory-map.co.uk/road_angel_adventurer_satnav.htm

Details sketchy as yet, they obviously hope we will attend the show.

Looks a more rugged solution than a Pocket PC for the OS mapping wonder if the Road navigation will be a rival for Tom Tom? Dual product could be advantageous.

Does anyone have any further info or views?

More details on satmap here: http://www.proadventure.co.uk/acatalog/Sat...asatmapactive10

And from the OS site:

Satmap is launching a fully integrated outdoor sports GPS and digital map system. The Satmap Active 10 is an all-weather, day or night sports GPS. It displays high-quality OS Explorer Maps and OS Landranger Maps supplied by Satmap on SD memory cards that simply plug straight into the Active 10.

Very nice... but at £300 for the basic unit, another £1700 for the National Parks at 1:25000 and yet another £500 for the 10 OS regions at 1:50000 that could turn out to be one very expensive piece of kit!

Don't think I could justify that :P:P

I agree. I use Fugawi uk and that has all the ordnance survey maps for a fraction of the cost. It also allows you to input waypoints tracks and routes to a lot of gps units. Well worth the money to us so maybe worth a look for you....

We have one of these units on trial at work.

It (at present) requires the preloaded app and maps or a seperately purchased SD card with it all setup for you.

You cannot (at present) plug the unit into a PC and upload MM to it, even with the latest version, the way you can a PDA.

I think the amount of pressure being placed on the software/hardware vendor, they may come round to allowing this to happen in a soon to released upgrade of MM.

In the meantime don't spend your cash too soon.
