+WWC-World's Worst Cacher
It seems that every post of a coin for trade is being closed by the moderators. I am confused I thought one could post either trade coins or trackable for sale coins. Can we get some clarification? Link to comment

+coreynjoey
Isn't there a coin trading thread? Yes, at the very top of the Geocoin forum there is a pinned thread just for posting about trades. From what I can gather from one of Eartha's posts, it is ok to post about a trade only coin, if it is trackable. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it. After discussing this thread with Groundspeak, I am re-opening it based on the fact that this coin is trackable on www.geocaching.com. Non trackable coins up for trade threads will still be placed into the trading thread. You may proceed. Edited February 6, 2007 by coreynjoey Link to comment
+Eartha
Yes, there is a coin trading thread. I closed and then reopened a thread after discussing it with Groundspeak, because the OP was offering many coins that were trackable for trade. If it were just a few coins, then it would have been moved to the trading thread. We didn't see that we needed to force someone to put coins up for sale, that they wanted to offer for trade only, when they were trackable and so many were being offered, in order for them to have the thread. Sadly, it took a few days, and I hope they didn't go through the trouble of putting them up for sale too, when that wasn't their wish in the first place. We still want trades to be posted in the trading thread, when there are just a few coins, and when they are not trackable. If someone has a trade that is for a large number of trackable coins, we'll look at it. Non-trackable coins will be in the trading thread. I didn't re-open the thread just because I felt like it, I needed to discuss it with the home office first. As to the other threads being closed, we don't need a new thread for every single coin being traded. It makes the trades much harder to find for someone who wants to do some quick coin shopping. It's best to post them trackable or not in the trading thread for a quick reply. one stop shopping. But when someone has a whole bunch of coins to offer, that are trackable, then we'll look at it. The guidelines need tweaking, and we're looking them over. It's an ever evolving learning experience, isn't it? Edited February 6, 2007 by Eartha Link to comment

I see it more and more often lately. Maybe it's time to update the forum software to work well with this policy? Board Message Sorry, an error occurred. +Eartha
That error comes up when you try to post several posts in a row, I believe. It's to keep the boards from being flooded, but I could be wrong about that. I've seen it before when I tried posting twice. I doubt it has anything to do with the policy. Link to comment

ParentsofSAM
Well I too wondered about this. Once upon a time people could open a new thread if they had a whole edition of trade only coins no matter if they were trackable or not. Then we see several threads getting closed down and being told to post to the trading thread. This new change happened with no information being given to the community. If that is how it is going to be then it would have been nice for someone to come along and update the "Welcome to the Geocoin Forums" thread stating that non-trackables coins will be handled in this manner. No separate threads. It is my opinion that is you have a complete edition of non-trackable trade only coins that are being newly announced to the community they need their own new thread and putting them up in the pinned Trading Thread just unnecessarily clutters it up. Because if someone has 500 coins to trade then every couple of days they are going to post a new message to that thread so that their coin can continue to be seen and not get lost in the thread. There you go my 2 cents....we all know what that is worth. Link to comment

I agree completely. In the past the pinned "for trade" topic was used for saying "looking for a coin" and "here's what I have to trade" or "here's where my trade list is hosted". New editions (trade only or trackable for sale/trade) were allowed their own topic. I think this makes sense. A new coin (even a trade only non-trackable) is going to get 200 or 300 "please add me" or "I want one" posts. If it's posted in the pinned topic, the individual trades for older coins will get lost in the flood. Windrose Link to comment
