+TBBT Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I've read post were folks have mentioned that they use Cachemate with Memory Map. I don't see any integration/support between the two applications. I'm in the process of upgrading from my iQue 3600 to a Dell Axim X51v. I have Garmin Mobile 10, Memory Map, and Cachemate installed on the Axim. Cachemate worked well with the iQue 3600. In that setup I could easily narrow down my database of caches by doing a Search for Nearest Caches. I could then easily port only the desired caches that I wanted to go find to waypoints in the address book and into wayQue. Of course the caches could then be displayed in QueMap. The insertion/removal of waypoints in the address book could then be managed by wayQue. The whole setup has always struck me as being pretty slick. Unfortunately, I don't see anyway of getting the same functionality with Cachemate and Memory Map. I don't see any way of importing caches into Memory Map without using the PC application. So using Cachemate to narrow down the list of caches (in the database) to only those caches that are desired and then porting them (while out in the field) into Memory Map doesn't appear to be possible. All I can tell is that you pretty much have to import the entire contents of your pocket caches into Memory Map's PC application and then export them to the PDA on an all or non basis. So it kind of defeats the purpose of having a separate cache database manager like Cachemate if you have to import the whole database into Memory Map anyway. Of course Memory Map is limited in that it doesn't appear to be able to display most of the valuable information in the cache's GPX file (i.e. cache's detailed description, logs etc.). It appears that you can set a file path in Memory Map to the location of a HTML file that contains the detailed cache information (The default of course points to the actual cache page on Geocaching.com necessitating an internet connection. Not much use while in the field). At first glance it appears that you can use Cachemate to export a cache to an HTML file. But, after further review it seems that you can only create HTML files that contain your own personal field logs. Not that it matters much because I can't find a way to drill down to the file that Cachemate has created in Memory Map’s file input field. Of course if you had to individually link every individual cache in Memory Map to an associated HTML file - then what good would it be anyway? Anyway, I'm a little lost at how to use Cachemate and Memory Map together. Can anybody fill me in? Quote
+Maeglin Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 According to its documentation, Memory Map can import GPX, LOC and MXF files. CacheMate can export all of those. Quote
+TBBT Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 According to its documentation, Memory Map can import GPX, LOC and MXF files. CacheMate can export all of those. Yes you can do it with the PC application, but I don't see where you can do it with the PDA application. Since were talking about using Memory Map along with Cachemate in the field - it's the PDA application's functionality that's of interest here. Quote
+TBBT Posted February 6, 2007 Author Posted February 6, 2007 I did find out more info about that file path you can set in Memroy Map's Mark/Waypoint properties page. Apparently there is some kind of "command line" support that allows you to enter a string like cmate:GCWF27 (where GCWF27 is the cache name in Cachemate.) You can then double tap the cache icon in Memory Map and it will bring up Cachemate's details page for that cache. This works great and really has the potential of making these two applications a great team for caching field use. However, once you close Memory Map the file path entry you just entered will be altered. The next time you open Memory Map you will see that "\Program Files\Memory-Map\ will added to the front of the path you put in (i.e. \Program Files\Memory-Map\cmate:GCWF27). This of course breaks the link and gives you an error the next time you double click on the cache in Memory Map. If I had my wish - you would be able to use Cachemates filtering ability to make a list of only those caches of interest. You could then export that list to a .gpx file (with the appropriate cmate:xxxxxx file address filled in). That .gpx could then be imported into Memory-Map (with the appropriate cmate:xxxxxx file address filed in). Once you were done with this subset of caches (after your day's search) you could delete them from Memory-Map (they would still be maintained in the Cachemate database). Cachemate will do all of the above, with the exception of automatically filling in the address field with the appropriate cmate:xxxxxx field. Memory-Map's PDA application on the other hand doesn't seem to be able to import .gpx files (or any other format). Even if it did, it would have to be fixed so that it didn't automatically alter the cmate:xxxxxx entry in the address field. If the above wishes were made a reality, then I think the two applications could be considered to support each other well enough for in the field use. Maybe somebody has already figured all this stuff out. If so could you point me in the right direction? Quote
+rodz Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 The solution to part of your problem is to use "\cmate:GCxxxx". The backslash is the key. MM won't now add the file location. I haven't found a way to do this all on a PPC but instead use "\cmate:%code" to create a GSAK generated CSV file which has Cachemate links in the MM overlay. Quote

Cachemate will worked well with Garmin Mobile XT. from cachemate you can tap the map buttom, the coordinate with the waypoint name will send over to Garmin Mobile XT. Just used GMXT route to the nearest. turn back to cachemate, tap the Nav buttom, the cacheNav will navigated you to the Ground Zero of the cache. I was using it for few months already. Quote
