Hi,

I'm new to using a GPS unit (New here too). I have found a few caches already. The coordinates for the caches and the coordinates on my unit have been the same, so I'm thinking that this part of my unit is ok. It's the miles per hour field that I'm wondering about. I have checked it in two different vehicles and against a couple of radar speed traps. It always says that I'm going 2 to 2.5 mph slower than what my speedometer reads. Any way to reset the accuracy of this?

I would believe the GPS over the car speedometer.

I would as well, considering most speedo's have an inherent and allowed error. In Australia, they are allowed to have an error of 10%

Thanks. MAybe I'll have the speedometer chacked out one day if it's not too expensive.

A fairly quick and convenient way to check accuracy would be to drive 60 mph on a freeway noting the passing of mile markers. If it takes longer than 10 minutes to cover 10 miles, you should have a good sense of how your speedo is doing.

And check the differences in heading N/S, E/W, The GPS's in our trucks are 2-3 miles off E/W, but right on going N/S.
