kateweb
I know a ton of glass blowers and artists i was thinking it could be fun to have one of them make a couple of unique coins - I would so make them trakable . hears some info on glass to note before tho heck no feedback : soft glass is the cheepy stuff that brakes I will probably use pirex. thay will be rather think so they can be dropped and not break esily. QuigleyJones
Although there have been some porcelain coins have been allowed Im not sure if Groundspeak will issue tracking #s for glass coins. Quote Link to comment
kateweb
these things will be around a quoter inch thick so they wont be likely to break they do make glass that is made for the rough and tumble ... Quote Link to comment
57chevy
I would so be interested in a couple of em. If just a few coins are being made, you could buy tb tags and use the numbers off of them on the coins, if you just wanted them to be trackable. Quote Link to comment
danoshimano
I would be very interested, especially if you make it a personal coin. Quote Link to comment
+Crowesfeat30
Sounds really cool, 'specially if you have different colored ones! Just take a gander at the Suncatcher coins, for example. Gorgeous coins, those. CF30 Edited January 30, 2007 by Crowesfeat30 Quote Link to comment
+aa8bj
Sounds good to me, depending on price as to how many I would buy. Quote Link to comment
+MommyFinder
I'd love to see some designs! Quote Link to comment
+~tasia~
hears some info on glass to note before tho heck no feedback i think it sounds okay, but i'm having a bit of trouble understanding you. Quote Link to comment
+fox-and-the-hound
I love the idea, do you have any sample pix? Quote Link to comment
Flying Spaghetti Monster
I would suggest that you contact Groundspeak before embarking on this project. Tracking numbers are usually sold in large quantities and you mentioned that you would likely only do a few. Likewise, they have been pretty tight on only approving metal coins, with a recent exception of a porcelain coin. Sounds very interesting, though. Quote Link to comment
+fairyhoney
Colors would be nice. I'd more than likely would buy at least 2! Quote Link to comment
+salmondan
The very first TB I moved was Le'ggo My Logo- a beautiful fused glass piece of art with a TB tag inbedded in the design. Quote Link to comment
+joefrog
Even if you're doing just a few as a personal coin (non-trackable), the response would be great. Handmade stuff is my favorite! Quote Link to comment
+ScoutingWV
When I was but a wee scout my dad worked at a local (now defunct) glass plant. There's just soooo many wonderful possiblities with that material! I'd love to get a couple if you ever make them available. Good luck! Quote Link to comment
+Ble68
I would totally want one! Go for it! If you could notify if you are going to make them. I would definatly buy one especially if there were colors. The amount I buy depends on the price. Edited January 30, 2007 by Ble68 Quote Link to comment
+bickhart814
This would make a good item and if it opaque like a sun catcher that would be cool. I would be interested in the when they are available. thanks Quote Link to comment
Chumpo
geojane2u has left a few glass geocoins in caches around the northern Idaho and eastern Washington area. We have one stashed away in our coin collection. They aren't trackable, but are very nifty. Quote Link to comment
+SWx4
I think they sound great! Can't wait to see this come to fruition. Quote Link to comment
+fairyhoney
So, what have you decided? Glass coins would be a nice novelty of sorts. They'd definitely be beautiful to see and hold! Quote Link to comment
+wyohunter
I would be in for a few. This is a great idea! Quote Link to comment
+tom4props
Sounds like an idea with a lot of potential for etching and color tinting, etc. The light could be very dramatic and artistic, even a stained glass coin. The second to last step would have to be adding the tracking numbers and after that, the glass could be tempered which would make it strong (and safe should one break). Adding the individual tracking numbers to the coins seems like a step that might become costly. I'm very interested to see how this pans out. Quote Link to comment
+Theseus
Likewise, they have been pretty tight on only approving metal coins, with a recent exception of a porcelain coin. Anyone have a pic or a linky of the porcelain coin? To remain on topic, I think a glass coin would be peachy. Quote Link to comment

Awesome idea! I think it would probably want to be a personal coin or relate to geocaching somehow. Got any ideas on the design? Quote Link to comment
+OshnDoc
I would be interested in a Personal geocoin made of glass. That is another quite challenging coin and very intersting idea. Quote Link to comment

+derschlings
sounds cool. I'd support the cause, trackable or not! Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
When I was a student I worked with a glass blower who created custom scientific apparatis (I sure as heck can't spell that). Pretty interesting trade. The coins should be done regardless of tracking issues because they would be unique and they would represent you. Which is the entire point of a signature coin. +MommyFinder
I would also buy several, even if they're not trackable. Quote Link to comment

TokyoBlossom
I also like the idea of this one, I hope it works out! Quote Link to comment
+Hula Bum
I really hope these get done as non-trackables, it would be such a wonderful special sig item. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would trade a coin for this (even a trackable one!). Keep us posted. Quote Link to comment
Ferreter5
I'd definitely trade for a special personal signature item like this. I'd even prefer it if it was not trackable. Quote Link to comment

+MommyFinder
It has been three months since the Op even posted to the forums little alone an update to this suggestion. I dare say this is not going to happen? Yeah, only 4 caches found, hasn't visited the site in a couple of weeks. Darn! I thought this was going to be a really cool idea, too. Quote Link to comment
+fairyhoney
Well, a cacher can wish Quote Link to comment
+jwucook
I wouldn't say this idea is dead, I think this is something I would be interested in making. A signature item or token would definately be waterproof and easily movable from cache to cache. No promises but I do also know a few people. A small glass medallion like on a necklace maybe 1.5" can have some amazing detail. I also dont think lettering is an issue. Quote Link to comment

sssooocool
I began the plan of making pottery geocoin since last year and I gave the initial draft design on Jan. 10 this year to my uncle who has 25 years of experience in making pottery. Given the unique feature of pottery, it took a long time to modify the design step by step and test numerous ways of making sample, and finally we achieved a workable way for production only recently. Let us give PO more encouragement as there are a lot of unforeseen difficulties in making coins in other materials. Although I don’t know about glass, but I wish that he will fulfill his task in the near future. sssooocool Quote Link to comment
