swhite7000 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I have read about some now grandfathered moving caches in which a travelbug that is attached to a small container and a logbook travels around from cache to cache and is all listed on geocaching.com as a cache. Where are they? Any examples? Links? Quote
+Super_Nate Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I might be wrong about this, but I think I remember hearing that these caches are no longer grandfathered and they were all archived. Once again, I'm not the one to confirm that so don't take my word for it. Quote

Since they don't have special icons and are not a special cache type...they are hard to find. Quote
+Huntcliff Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 GCCCC7 is one I saw / found less than a year ago - it has a travel bug.i Quote
+Super_Nate Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Then again.....looks like I'm wrong! Good thing you didn't take my word for it. Quote
+Super_Nate Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Doing a little research into these caches I found a bookmark list loaded with traveling caches. Put them all on your watchlist and you might just find one of them someday. Traveling Caches by Lord Elwood Quote
+dos gatos diablos Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I am not sure I understand them either. Here is one GC105D On this one, the cache page says that it is hidden but the log says someone has it so I can't go look for it. It seems weird to have a cache that is in someone's possession for so long that it is out of commission so much. Quote
+Lord Elwood Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Super_Nate, you beat me to it!!!! And if yo find any other that I don't have in the list, please email them to me and I'll add them. Quote

Dinoprophet Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) I know of two. One Two Neither appears to be on your list, Lord Elwood. On this one, the cache page says that it is hidden but the log says someone has it so I can't go look for it. It seems weird to have a cache that is in someone's possession for so long that it is out of commission so much. Exactly. That's one of the many reasons no new ones are listed here. +Lord Elwood Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 They're added to the list now! Thanks. And keep those moving caches coming. If you find one not in my list, please let me know. Quote

Where are they? Any examples? Links? IIRC, any moving caches that are brought to the attention of a reviewer or admin will be archived. I'd seen an old cache that was converted into travel bug tag. I don't think logging the archived cache page was permissible. And then there is this cool series by NFA. Not exactly what you are looking for, but still pretty neat. Quote
+Mopar Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 IIRC, any moving caches that are brought to the attention of a reviewer or admin will be archived. Judging by the timing and the archive note, my guess is that one wasn't really a moving cache. More like a "sit on the table at an event cache and log it" pocket lint cache. Quote
+StarBrand Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 There moving you can't see them....... Quote
+Perfect Tommy Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Here are two more for Lord Elwood's list: The Corps of Discovery Town & Country Quote
+Harry Dolphin Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hmm... I've logged four moving caches! One was archived. The other three are still moving about! One of them is even moving about Europe! Little Cache Bug is a TB pretending to be a Moving Cache. I liked him! I hope someone retrieves him from Frazier Meadows soon! Quote

That's exactly what it was. Grandfathered moving caches are still OK as far as I know, but if one is archived it will not be unarchived. Quote
+parker313 Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 There are 2 here in Savannah. One just moves within a specific park, so it's always available. The other is a parasite cache. Quote

So, shooting fish in a barrel is bad form, but trying to catch Walter is cool! It was moving at one time. That was a lot of fun. I missed it twice by about 45 minutes each time. I got chased and stung by a swarm of hornets and twisted my ankle really bad while running for cover in a thunderstorm. It took me a good two months to finally log this one. I had a blast hunting this it, really! Quote
