AtwellFamily
Looking to activate a number of coins and place them in a cache "My collection" so they don't show as me holding them. Is there a way to create a cache to do this? Quote Link to comment
MustangJoni
I use one of my archived caches. But you can create a cache, but not submit it for review. Quote Link to comment
Dr. Whoever
Both ways MustangJoni said are the best ways. I use an archived cache to hold over 400 coins that are activated. Quote Link to comment
Prairiepartners
I changed a name of a disabled cache before archiving to something like "Prairiepartners Geocoin Collection" and changed description so others would know what it was being used for. Quote Link to comment
Anthus
I use one of my archived caches. But you can create a cache, but not submit it for review. My husband was just telling me today how a local cacher created a "dummy" cache and did not submit it for review as a way to keep all his coins this way. Quote Link to comment
Bunya
I usually don't activate a geocoin unless I intend to set it free. However I had wondered about creating a separate gc.com account to activate and store my "not for release" geocoins. Can anyone see a problem with this idea? Quote Link to comment
Kealia
Why create a seperate account? You can just do what the others have said above. I went the route of creating a new cache and just never submitting it. I can still see it and the coins that I activated a while back sit in there. Quote Link to comment
wyohunter
Yeah. What they said. I use that and when I go to an event, I take them out so they can be discovered and get some mileage. Is that wrong? Of course when/if my collection gets bigger I don't think I will take them all out. That might take a while. Quote Link to comment
Bunya
Why create a seperate account? You can just do what the others have said above. I went the route of creating a new cache and just never submitting it. I can still see it and the coins that I activated a while back sit in there. I did that some time ago (set up an un-submitted cache), though I use it mainly for testing out cache page ideas, storing images etc. My reasons for considering setting up a separate account are these: I see geocoins as having two distinct identities now - their original one as travellers and their evolved one as collectibles. I think that anyone looking the trackables in my profile should be able to assume that they are travelling or soon will be. So if I activate geocoins I intend to keep, I want them to be separate and also I see them as independent of my “real” geocaching identity. I raised this point of a separate account because, though I previously hadn’t intended to activate non-travellers, I now see the icons as part of the collection for me, but not part of my geocaching record. Sorry if this is getting overly philosophical. Also I have sympathy for users with slow internet connections (like mine!) who have to wait an eternity for all the icons to download when they look at the “trackables” profile of a geocacher who is actually just displaying their collectibles.
