Is my GPS well off because they took down one of our sats???

Just think if they took 'em all down?????

If you're out caching and all the sats disappear, then I would start being concerned <_< Seriously though, I don't believe it was a GPS sat that was shot down. I believe it was one of their own old beasts. If they had shot down one of ours, that would be an act of war.

The same thing struck me today. If there is a war over Taiwan, the US plan to wade in and the Chinese will take out US Satellites - they'll start with the spy satellites but the GPS ones won't be far behind.

All of a sudden I'm in favour of Galileo.

One sat is easy to track and avoid. Hundreds or thousands of bits of a satellite are hard (or impossible) to track, and may be a hazard to other satellites or manned craft in the future. A bit of a worry, frankly.

don't bet on it. if you've a limited number a rockets are you going to take out the ones that control cruise missiles and all their targeting equipement or the ones that let them look at you?

But won't all the small parts slowly re-enter the atmosphere and get burnt up?

Also - if they took out the TV satellites, I'd be out of a job! <_<:yikes:
