+Fish Below The Ice
Just outside Toronto. Well done res2100! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC10000 dave [Edit: Added link] Edited January 14, 2007 by dabhid07 Quote Link to comment
+Woodlit
Is that really the first? I've been finding 7 digit caches for (i think) more than a week now. That one was published the 13th, but I have one published the 9th. That was hidden the 13th, and I think mine was hidden the 6th. And I know there was a bunch before mine. Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
He snagged the cache page as soon as it was available, but the cache was only just approved. Quote Link to comment
+NJ Admin
Yea, congratuations. Pure luck he got that number, I'm sure. Quote Link to comment
+Woodlit
He might have the number, but there are other 7 digit caches out there that have been found several times before that was even published. Doesn't sound like the first to me Quote Link to comment
Dinoprophet
I probably missed a discussion somewhere, but why wasn't the first 7-digit waypoint GC00001? Edited January 14, 2007 by Dinoprophet Quote Link to comment
+sbell111
Yea, congratuations. Pure luck he got that number, I'm sure. Are you suggesting that there might be many unused GC IDs right before GC10000? Quote Link to comment
+Rockin Roddy
I have a few 7 digit caches that came out on Christmas...so no, that isn't ACTUALLY the first one!! It's just the one with that number! Quote Link to comment
+duhgee
Regardless of whether it was first in timing or just sequence, it's still something to get excited about. The cache write-up is pretty interesting, and res2100 was pretty lucky to get it. It represents growth of geocaching, for which we can all appreciate. I for one am proud to have FTF of the first (numerically speaking) 7-digit geocache. Quote Link to comment
surferacf1
On a quasi-related note, what ever happened to GCZZZZ? Quote Link to comment
+flamejobgrrl
duhgee and I found this tonight. I get a call at 7:30pm and off we go. We met halfway and then drove up together to try and see if we couldn't find it. We were all fluttery inside with anticipation (how nerdy I know - but it was FANTASTIC). Once we found the spot duhgee was quick to find it being the first to open GC10000. WTG! What a fantastic night - thanks for the cache and the forum posts to let us know that this one was more or less in our backyard. Can't believe it wasn't attempted before this (almost 3 weeks out there before found). In terms of it being luck that res2100 got the number - sure - but he, his wife and son would be considered local geocaching royalty and having hidden 111 published caches, he deserves it. Thanks res!!!!!!!!!! Edited January 15, 2007 by flamejobgrrl Quote Link to comment

+txoilgas
Yea, congratuations. Pure luck he got that number, I'm sure. Correct... cache numbers are automatically assigned when you hit the report new listing button. That has nothing to do with when it is approved. I have a couple that I have been working on that still have the 6 digit code. He just got lucky. Quote Link to comment
+TetrAmigos
WTG! We snagged a 7-digit cache just a few days ago but it was an event cache. Quote Link to comment
+Prime Suspect
I probably missed a discussion somewhere, but why wasn't the first 7-digit waypoint GC00001? There are no leading zeros. The first cache would be GC1, though I don't think that was ever used for an actual cache. Quote Link to comment

I have a test cache page that has never been sent for review, but it has a GC#. If I was of the mind, I could have created a bunch of these and, perhaps, been the proud owner of GC10000. +KBI
So ... how long do ya s'pose it'll be before we hit GC100000? Quote Link to comment
surferacf1
So ... how long do ya s'pose it'll be before we hit GC100000? According to hid cache page, 300+ years! Quote Link to comment
+drat19
So ... how long do ya s'pose it'll be before we hit GC100000? Hmmm, given recent rates of Micro Spew, I'd say...in 6 months? Quote Link to comment
Mr.Yuck
Yea, congratuations. Pure luck he got that number, I'm sure. I detect a hint of sarcasm here, maybe it's just me. I live within range of this cache, hope to find it some day. Great job on the write-up. Quote Link to comment

I still wonder how many cache pages were snagged just prior to GC10000 that will likely never be submitted for review. Quote Link to comment
