+SeeKPeeKRs
There is a cache in our area that is in a great park, but the cache is not being maintained by the owner. This is according to the logs (cache logs stating that the log is full and wet started appearing last March). We emailed the cache owner (no reply) and then asked the local reviewer if we could adopt the cache since it had been almost a year since the cache owner had logged on to GC.com. The cache reviewer said they would look into the situation. Fast forward to now. DNFs are being posted for this cache. We contact the local reviewer and ask again if can adopt the cache. Between then and now the cache owner has logged onto GC.com (last visit August 2006). The local reviewer says that since the cache owner has logged onto GC.com (even though it was four months ago) that the cache is not available for adoption. So, look at the info posted on a cache page by someone who doesn't seem to be a cache reviewer: "Cache owner last logged onto the site 19 August 2006. Per the geocaching guidelines, 'You should also return to the Geocaching.com web site at least once a month to show you are still active. Caches posted and "abandoned" may be archived by the site.' " This particular cache was archived. Yet, the cache in our area, that no one seems to able to adopt hasn't been archived. Can we archive the cache so an active cache can be placed in this awesome park? Quote Link to comment
+GRANPA ALEX
If you really want to do something fine and enhance the caching experience for others . . . why not repair the cache, the log & container. You will be helping an owner who probably does not care but leaving all the angst behind - or. log an SBA! Quote Link to comment

Actually, that was what we were thinking of doing ... regardless of who owns the cache, just going in and fixing it. We were not quite sure if that was allowed; it is good to know that it is. BTW, what is an SBA log? Quote Link to comment

In this situation our reviewer, either before or after an SBA, will put it off line for 30 days and if the owner does nothing will archive it. Then you can go place a maintained cache in the same place if you want. I do not feel we should maintain caches placed by owners that are not willing to maintain them. Quote Link to comment
+Cardinal Red
<snip> ... BTW, what is an SBA log? SBA = Should Be Archived But the actual wording under the log your visit options is: Needs Archived Quote Link to comment
