honugirl
Hi, I'm new to this whole geocaching thing. I'm interested in it because one of my best friends and I used to do actual treasure hunting before his accident. Now he's a quadriplegic in a wheelchair. He's ordering one of those 4x4 all terrain chairs, which will go most, but not all places unfortunately. How can I know that a cache would be wheelchair accessible before embarking on the search? I don't want to have to go out ahead of time and see and then go back for him, it sort of would defeat the purpose and the fun of us doing it together. I really think it would be good for both of us mentally and emotionally to be able to get back into doing something like this as we are drawn to the thrill of the hunt. Thanks! +Stunod
Look for caches rated as 1 star terrain...they SHOULD be wheelchair accessable. Also, you might want to check out Handicaching.com Edited January 11, 2007 by Stunod Quote Link to comment

honugirl
Thanks! Hopefully I can find something in our area that fits those descriptions. Is it common to find ones that are wheelchair accessible? Quote Link to comment
+michigansnorkelers
Thanks! Hopefully I can find something in our area that fits those descriptions. Is it common to find ones that are wheelchair accessible? One suggestion would be to contact cachers who have placed a lot of caches in your area. They should know right away which of their caches are easy to get to. After I broke my leg geocaching in July, I contacted several local cachers about this and they were VERY cooperative.
