+Alibags Posted January 10, 2007 Share Posted January 10, 2007 LINKY Human skull discovered in woods Police and forensic archaeologists are examining a human skull which was found in woodland in Buckinghamshire. It was discovered on Sunday morning by a man walking his dog in Wendover Woods, Aylesbury Vale. The area has been cordoned off and Thames Valley Police officers are searching the site. Det Sgt Pete Foy said officers and other specialists were trying to determine the nature and origin of the bone, which could take several weeks. He appealed to people who visit the woods regularly and, in particular, an area known as The Bowl to come forward if they have any information about the skull or have found other bones in the woods. The problem is I don't know where 'the bowl' is in Wendover Woods - my two caches are on the periphery anyway. The Ollies' The Howling Wood is actually in it. Again, it's a big area with a rich history, inc. an ironage camp, so theirs may be well away from The Bowl, and the skull may be 'quite innocent'. Thanks for the heads-up Alibags! +The Ollies Posted January 11, 2007 Share Posted January 11, 2007 After seeing Simply Pauls post stating that our cache 'Howling Woods' is located within Wendover Woods, we had been assured, on good authority, that it is not within the boundaries of the forestry commision and had it been so it would not have been approved! We do know that there are restrictions of cache placement within this area and would not have been so blatent in disregard of these stipulations. However, we will investigate to see whether we are in breach of such restrictions and of so the cache will be archived with immediate effect. Quote Link to comment

Just to reassure the Ollie's and confirm that my esteemed colleagues judgement in publishing "Howling Woods" was 100% correct . It is in Wendover Woods (you go past big signs saying Welcome to Wendover Woods to reach it!) but I wasn't suggesting it was on FC land. Quote Link to comment
