Transfer Route to PC

Recommended Posts

Hello again!

I'm sure there's a way to do this but I can't figure it out. How do I transfer a route/path I've take onto my PC so that it shows up on the Magellan map on the PC? I just went outside to a few places with the GPS and would like to have the path I took show up on the PC. Do I need to save a route on the GPS? Create a route?

Any help is appreciated.

First you need to configure your GPSr to communicate with the Magellan software. After you establish a connection to your GPSr, you can simply download your track file into the application.

What software are you using?

Thank you for the reply!

I am using the software that came on the Magellan CD. Also, I am using the Direct Route software for the detailed map on my 500le. Do I need to do something on my GPSr before/after I go out so that it saves my track so I can upload it to the PC (and have it superimposed on the direc route map)?

Sorry for the basic question, my 500 only came with a 5 page manual.

Press Menu, then Track Log, then Save. Just name the file when you save it and it will have a ".log" extension. You can then convert it to a ".gpx" file using the program: GPSBabel GUI. You can then view your track on Google Earth.

Thank you, I saved a track last night. I will try to convert it to a GPX and view it on Google Earth tonight.

Ok, so it worked up until the GPSbabel part. I downloaded the program, however, when I select the input .log file (which I saved to my desktop) and select GPX XML as my output it spits and error out at me. I believe it's because I don't know what to select as my 'input' device. Do I select Magellan, then browse for files, pick all files, then find my .log file?

Sorry of the newb question.
