MapSource registry problem

Recommended Posts

I have a new Compaq Presario Laptop computer. It will not run mapsource. After loading it and trying to start it the computer comes up with "There is a problem with the MapSource registry. Please re-install Mapsoures and start again. " After installing again the same problem. I have borrowed other versions of the program but no better.

I can not now load any or change any maps with my GPS

What is the problem and how do I fix it. I did not have this problem with any version of MapSource on my desk top computer. I run XP on both computers.

I had the same problem. I solved my problem by making sure that Mapsource was updated to the latest version before I even tried to run Mapsource after the install. So, install Mapsource, download and run the latest patch, and then try to start Mapsource.

This may not be your problem, though, since you're doing a fresh install. I was attempting to do a re-install to cure problem I was having with the Unlock Wizard when I got the "Registry Problem" error.

Good luck!!

I had exactly the same problem...

Quigley Jones is right, here is what you should do, in detail :

First, backup your registry (Click the Start button, click Run, type "regedit" (without the quotes), Click OK , then click File, and Export...)

Then

1. Uninstall MapSource via the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel

2. Reboot your computer

3. Click the Start button

4. Click Run

5. Type "regedit" (without the quotes)

6. Click OK

A window will open called Registry Editor

1. Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and click the + next to it

2. Find Software and click the + next to it

3. Find Garmin and click the + next to it

4. Find MapSource and right click on it

5. Click on Delete in the menu that pops up

6. Click on Yes when it asks you if you want to delete the key

7. Reboot your PC

8. Reinstall MapSource as normal
