+Jim W
The next 11-year solar storm cycle should be significantly stronger than the current one, which may mean big problems for power grids and GPS systems and other satellite-enabled technology, scientists announced today. +macatac1961
That's kind of a silly article. To state that the solar activity will increase from between now and 2008 and peak around 2012 isn't exactly news. That's the 11 year cycle. The last solar maximum was in 2000 and we just passed the solar minimum. It's not rocket science to know the sun will follow the patterns it's followed since we've been recording it. To say they can predict a stronger cycle by using ultrasound doesn't make sense, what are they comparing it too if this is brand new technology? I wouldn't worry about it too much, the danger to all electronics will be the same... what has changed is how much more dependant we are on these satellite based electronics gizmos. But just in case they are right, stick a compass in your pack. Quote Link to comment
