The Nevada Thread

Okay, now you gotta share. The rest of us are lost and it sounds like a good tale!

Enquiring minds want to know!

Story?

Oh, OK.

So... John places a cache near Fallon. In the description he talks about the great cache up the road and that this new cache was placed as a breadcrumb so that folks would know what road to take to get to it.

RoadRunner Archives it and says something like "Breadcrumbs are not allowed and this indesrcetion will be reported, and it will be dealt with harshly"

RoadRunner unarchives the cahe and says "just kidding" and continues with the publication process.

Jodi reads the first e-mail and calls John wondering if they will ever get to geocache again. Then they get the other e-mails for unarchive, cache published, etc.

All in a days work. :(

Psst! There are a lot of Reno / Fallon / Cartoon City cachers on NevadaGeocaching.com. I think they took over the place. Wanna join the bug race?

 Ok then, help Mr. Moose Mob... I "applied" for an account on the nevadageocaching web site and it said to wait 24 hours and they would e mail me. welllllll it was early yesterday morning when I filled out their(your???) application and I still haven heard from them (it is now late afternoon).... This is starting to get frustrating for someone who doesn't have easy access to his personal e mail and yada yada yada, more complaining etc!.... Can you help??? :D

I don't see your name in there. You should get the e-mail within 24 hours, usually 2-3 hours would be excessive. But like I said, your name isn't in the queue.

And I don't run the NevadaGeocaching site, but I do have a couple elevated priveledges. (Enough to Ban rusty_tlc if he gets out of line again)

I seem to re-call something about locking a thread you were involved with a while back. :D

Strange, I havent received a notification of post to this thread since sometime back in Feb. now I get one everytime anybody post.

Thincs that make you go Hummmmm. :D

I guess I should go over to NVG.com and see what else I might be missing.

A LOT!! Where've you been???

Coming to the party on Saturday ?

I'll be on a dirt road somewhere on Saturday.

I was just trying to set up a pocket query so we could do some caches along the way.

Looks like the one I set up to run never made it into my mailbox. :D

Maybe gmail and GC.com are having issues? :D

BTW I passed my Ham License, class 4 (no code).

We'll be on a dirt road Sunday. Pinenut area.

We will still be on dirt roads Sun. :anicute:

One of my goals for this summer is to route a trip across NV which uses as few paved roads as possiable.

A lot of it will follow the Apple Gate Lassen route. The central section of that trail is now I-80, we will be loking for alternates.

I'll be in Henderson this weekend and I want to take my 92 year old grandmother out geocaching. She lived in Elko for over 60 years and circumstances recently dictated she leave Elko and move to Henderson. I've taken her out before in Elko and normally she waited by the car while I found the cache. I would like to hit some caches that she can actually find herself. I've already downloaded the Waymark for NGA TourGuides. If I visit that spot will I get some help or should I post on NGA.com? I've also gotten a PQ of 1/1 caches in the area but I want to be sure they are real 1/1's and give her some quality caches and not just a collection of LPCs.

If you don't like the selection, add in the terrain 1.5 caches. You'll be suprised what folks can get to.

;) Anyone besides NevadaWolf attending the event in Gerlach this weekend (on the 6th?) GC124PX. Lost and Faith, you still in? :anicute:

The better question to ask is "Anyone besides NevadaWolf - and on this board - attending...." I know all the Finishers (well haven't heard from dandm) will be there, Spyder's going, HobbitHiker has to be there (since he lives there).

Course I have a chore to do while I'm up there. Drat Kentucky Derby and Drat the Wine Walk! I have to work that Saturday and I can't get free until 9pm. #%$*^#$%

Maybe I can take Monday off to go up and explore.... yeah, that would be cool and I can grab a few caches up there. Hurm, must talk to HobbitHiker. ;)

Hey John - here is what I posted over on NGA.

We'll be heading up early Sunday. Hope to snag a few of the semi-remote caches about 30 miles north of Gerlach.

Cave 447 (GCVZ5Z)

Home In The Sage (GC9CB9)

Devil's Gate (GCK668)

The Big Trees Cache (GCK66D)

LIMBO CACHE (GC104PZ)

Limbo Cache would be one on the way up if you take the civilized paved route to Gerlach (Hwy 447) out of Wadsworth. Anyone game for an early start. Maybe meet for breakfast - say 8am.

 Sorry that your work days include the 'normal" weekends for others.... Go get some caches today!

Yeah, the life of a casino worker sucks.

Plus I'm going to Gerlach again and there aren't too many caches up that way I still need (not many easily accessible anyway).

Maybe I'll be suicidal and go after the cache Hobbithiker told us about on the 6th.

That looks like a tough one. Hey, it is 0900, you should be caching, not on a forum.

 Great, there are 4 events happening in 3 days in the Lake Tahoe/Carson City area: GC10Z05 GC11Y56 GC13A61 GC133TG Two of these event caches take place over a two day period. How are Jodi (visiting Nevada that weekend!!) and I going to be able to get to all 4 and participate adequately??? I thought Nevada was a slow pace caching state.... 4 events in three days, sheesh :D

I knew about three of them, when'd the fourth one pop up?? What do we have, our own little event battle going on?

Well, let's see -

Friday 15th - Rally - according to the web site, you can cheer on your favorite team from the start/finish line and get credit, but they only mention Saturday, not Friday. Or you can attend the meals on Saturday - again, no mention of the meal on Friday

Saturday 16th - Rally - well, the Saturday Breakfast is from 9:30-10:30 at the Elks Lodge in Carson. ODL Meet & Greet isn't till 5:30-9:30, so you have plenty of time to get to this one. You might have to skip the Rally Dinner since it's at 7pm.

Sunday 17th - White Hill - this is at 11am, so just swing by for some grub.

The only one that is unknown how to log it is the Opening Day at the Lake. I sent habu! an email asking how one can participate if they only have one day off (this is the biggest reason I haven't done this - since I usually work either Sat or Sun). He never answered back. Though, since you know him, maybe you can ask. You'll have from 10:30a to 5:30p on Saturday to do whatever you can up at the lake. Or, since White Hill on Sunday is a picnic lunch, that leaves most of the morning and the remainer of the day to finish up with ODL.

You could stop in at the ODL at 5:30, leave by 5:45 and make the Rally Dinner before 7:00

Ah, but according to his post on one of the ODL's "We hope to be there for a bit. Jodi and I are trying to figure out how to attend 4 events over 3 days and see everyone we want to..."

How can you see everyone you want to in 15 minutes?

How long does it take to get from South Tahoe to the Elks lodge in Carson?

I know it takes 30 minutes from my mom's house on the south side of South Shore - looks like these guys are meeting out Emerald Bay Rd... so outside guess... 40-45 minutes since you'll be dealing with traffic on Hwy 50 all the way to the Y.

That's my guess anyway.

correction - just asked a Tahoe local, she said on a summer weekend, give yourself an hour as it could take 30 minutes simply to get from the Y to Stateline.

So we could hang out until 6:00 or so.

Six at latest - I might be able to shave some time with the two locals roads that I know about (well, one I just learned of).

South Shore is a bottle-neck, sometimes traffic flows easily, other times, you get stuck, depending on the tourists.

I see the start is at 11, so if I meet you there, we should be able to get up to Tahoe by 11:30. 5 hours of caching, 1/2 hour to get to the ODL event, hang out, and then move down to Carson.

Boy my knowledge of the area is going to be tested! :)

John/Jodi, how's your planning going?

:) Well, I want to participate in the rally on Friday, and Saturday. Then leave sometime during the rally Saturday to get to the ODL meet and greet in Tahoe. Then Sunday, participate in the opening day at the lake event, but be able to leave sometime to go to the White Hill event. In the sequence you guys talk about, there isn't any talk about actually participating in the rally and we are thinking more and more of doing that. I'll keep working on it. Gee we have to think about where we are staying each night too!! :(

J&J, I suggest participating in the Rally. It's too awesome.

Teri, I plan on heading out after breakfast Saturday, probably 10:00 or so. I'm not going to wait around for the 11:00 first car out. (I think the first one out will be back about 3:00 or 4:00?)

I think Letty would prefer to stay in Tahoe. Anyone got ideas for a nice place that's cheap?

okies, since the Elks is near the Nugget, I'll meet you there (and crash the breakfast)

Yes, I got your voicemail - I'll call ya when I'm free from work.

J&J, wanna stay at the same place and do some car pooling? I do have to take my GJTB to the events.

Lynn, or MM, or RR, Not that we think you smell or anything but... I thing we should be try to stay independent for the weekend in case our plans or your plans change. You don't know us yet and when Jodi and I cache together the conversations in the cockpit aren't pretty, just ask the San Diego cachers....

Heh heh heh - I know all about how these conversations can get.

But... after I posted I realized that the only times our paths might be headed in the same direction is Saturday from hotel to ODL to Dinner and back to hotel.

And I get pretty self conscious about my smell.

This has got to be a guy thing, so I'm just going to say "Men!"

No, wait, I take that back, I've gone caching with Spyder, Jeeper, L1, BC, WWD, Altered... so it must be a you two thing...

I can cache 12+ hours with a carload of women, and nothing like this happens. I think I'll hang out with Letty. ;)

And as a San Diego representative, I can attest that it is not Jodi's fault ;):anibad:, she is a darlin girl with only pure caching fun on her mind . Hope to see you guys up in Tahoe next weekend, even John ;)
