Thanks for making your TYP programs available...with these front ends you're making it easy for people to create the necessary files...

Now could you "hack" Mapsource so we can upload TYP files with it instead of SendMap?

Hi rws!

You can now send TYP file with mapsource in your GPSr.

If you use MapSetToolKit, you just take your FID in hexa and convert your HEX in DEC. After you put in your TYP file this number in FID. After you put 1 in PRODUCTCODE.

This method with MapSetToolKit it's available 1.08 and more

I little bugs in MapSetToolKit 1.11 with ID in uninstall list. The ID is incorrect. ex: You see 3400, the good ID is 0034. The fix is makde, I finish my test tomorrow for this bugs.

Just compile your TYP. And your Happy, it's work great.

I can get the TYP modified map file to display in Mapsource but when I upload the map to GPSr it displays the original map not the TYP modified map. How do you get the TYP file to upload to GPSr with Mapsource?

Your TDB is made with MapSetToolKit?

if yes, can you send me your *.reg made by MapSetToolKit. If you want use TYP file with mapsource product, just give me a ID number in uninstall list please.

I will indicate what to you to enter in your ID HEADER of TYP file.

Procedure step-by-step (for mapsetToolkit 1.11)

1) Open MapSetToolKit: Take the hexa number of your mapset (ID). ex: 1200. Inverse hexa number (0012). Convert this number in decimal. The number is 18.

2) Edit [id] section of txt TYP-file

3) In ProductCode you write 1

4) In FID you write 18 (number in number one)

5) Compile TYP file with Mapsettoolikt or cgpsmapper

6) Edit with MapSetToolKit your mapset ID:1200

7) Fill TYP field with your new TYP file.

8) Go to Mapsource and select maps your can send to GPSr.

9) Open GPSr.

A new version of MapSetToolKit is coming soon. In this new version, the Id number in uninstall list will be a decimal number.

Hi rws!

In your registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Families\ontariotyp]

"ID"=hex:03,6e

Your hexa number is 036e. Reverse this number gives 6e03. (Resulat after invert is 6e03)

Your take 6e03 and convert in decimal: (Resulat is 28163)

Your take this cumber (28163) and fill FID in your txt typ-file.

Thats's it. You compile this file.

You can send multi maps product and multi TYP files to GPSr, it's work great with my tests

Updated info...

using my hex 036e (decimal 878) I inverted it to 6e03 (decimal 28163) and used that in Mapset Toolkit Family ID box and put the decimal number 28163 in the FID entry in text typ file...when I compiled and installed map it showed the TYP modified map in Mapsource just fine but when uploaded to GPSr it displayed the the non-modified map. I then tried the inverted 6e03 in Mapset Toolkit and 878 in the text typ file...compiled and installed...it now displays the TYP modified map in Mapsource and when uploaded to GPSr. Just wondering why the 878 FID number worked and not 28163 you suggested?

Can you send my your TDB dans img for ontariotyp please?? I can check that. I don't understand why don't work with you.

To get back on track...

I originally started with hex 036e which is 878 decimal

I put 878 in FID entry in typ text file and 036e in Family ID box in Mapset Toolkit

I compiled and installed in Mapsource...modified maps showed in Mapsource but not on GPSr

It was at this point I asked for help to figure out problem

You suggested to invert 036e to 6e03 and use the corresponding decimal equivalant 28163

I then put 28163 in FID entry in typ text file and 6e03 in Family ID box in Mapset Toolkit

I compiled and installed in Mapsource...modified maps showed in Mapsource but not on GPSr

I then put 878 in FID entry in typ text file and 6e03 in Family ID box in Mapset Toolkit

Now it displayed modified map in Mapsource and GPSr...good

Next I tried 28163 in FID entry in typ text file and 036e in Family ID box in Mapset Toolkit

It displayed modified map in Mapsource and GPSr...good

So what worked for me was the combination of 878 FID typ text file and 6e03 Family ID Mapset Toolkit OR 28163 FID in typ text file and 036e in Family ID Mapset Toolkit

878 and 036e what I originally used or 28163 and 6e03 what you suggested didn't work for me

is this consistant what works for you?

Yes you enter a good FID in MapSetToolKit. But after install this mapset, check (ID:) in uninstall listbox this number is inverse. it's not same that FID your enter in FID field. B) When I spoke to reverse it, I did not speak about that enter FID field, but about that in the uninstall listbox.. B) There already was an error in MapSetToolkit with the FID

B) It's a error of MapSetToolKit.

What version do you have od MapSetToolKit?

If I never inverse the ID (hexa) in the uninstall listbox, It's never work in the GPSr

A another people who can make the same tests????

thanks.

I'm using version 1.10 beta.

I understand about inverting the hex number but was confused previously about which decimal number to use...it's all clear now. I've made several TYP custom maps and have them installed and working in Mapsource.

Thanks for your work on making this custom map making easier.

So what is a TYP custom maps, type files, etc and what do they do? Thanks

A .TYP file is created by cGPSMapper using Cyphermans genTYP program to alter the display characteristics of polylines, polygons and points in your custom made maps. Download the cGPSMapper Manual and study section 5 for a detailed explanation of how to use TYP.

Am I understanding this correctly? One thing I do not like is it is hard to see trails in the custom maps I make. Can I make one of these typ files that I can just load onto the card that will change the way it displays in my 60csx? I do not care about MapSource and am not really concerned about anything else except maybe the way an alley/private drive is displayed (looks too much like a trail). I have looked at all the stuff being talked about here and am completely lost. So as to not reinvent the wheel, has anyone already done this and have a file to share? Or is there some sample file to work from? Thanks.

What hex code did you assign to the polylines for your trails? What line color would you like it to be? Do you want a border on that line and what color? I'll make you a TYP file to try out that you can send to your GPSr with Sendmap20 along with your img. I'll also send you the TYP text control file I used to make it so you can use it as a guide to make your own TYP files.

I am not sure about the hex code. The mp file has

[POLYLINE]

Type=0x16

Is that what you are looking for? My whole file will be at:

http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/maplist.php?author=4216

I would like for trails to just be red. No border. I think that will make it show up better.

Can I use the USB interface and simply place the typ file on the card?

Thanks again.

I PM'ed you the TYP files to try...here's some examples I used with your bike paths in St Louis. Lines can be made any color with or with out borders and any width you want. Use Sendmap20 to upload the TYP color choice and img files together.

Creating Custom Dashed Lines w/ GENTyp

1. Open GenTYP v0.93 BETA and in upper left corner click on "File" and select "New" or "Open".

2. If creating a new .txt file go to the GenTYP instructions; if editing an existing .txt file for custom shaped lines then click "Open" and open your .txt file to edit. In the "Element" box highlight the element to edit and click on "Edit" at the bottom of the "Element" box. The following boxes: "TYPE Element", "Element Name", and "Type" should be the only boxes with data in them; if any other boxes in the "ADD / EDIT" box have data in any of them then you should delete that data (such as Language, Type List, Sub Type, Solid Color, or Line Width boxes).

3. Click on "ADD/EDIT IMAGE" and in the XPM image box enter your XPM code. Ex. 1 below is for a red wide dotted line. All of the lines must be entered exactly in the format as they are, including: Xpm=, the "at the beginning and end and the correct number of spaces in the last 3 lines (all 3 must be the same number of spaces). The line can also be made using "Paint.net" a free graphics program similar to Microsoft Paint and importing your line into the "ADD / EDIT" box in the GENTyp utility.

Xpm="32 3 2 1"

"* c #FF0000"

" c #FFFFFF"

" ** ** ** ** "

"**** **** **** **** "

" ** ** ** ** "

In Ex. 1 above line 1 the "32" stands for a line length of 32 pixels in the 4th, 5th, and 6th lines. The "3" stands for an image 3 pixels in height, (is made up of the 4th, 5th, and 6th lines). The "2" stands for 2 colors in the line, is line 2 and 3. The "*" in line 2 is the type of character being used in lines 4, 5, and 6. The #FF0000 is the sRGB value for a red line and #FFFFFF is the sRGB value for white spaces. Lines 4, 5, and 6 make the shape of the image/dotted line.

Ex. 2: Blue narrow dashed line

Xpm="32 2 2 1"

"* c #0000FF"

" c #FFFFFF"

"***** ***** ***** ***** "

"***** ***** ***** ***** "

Ex. 3: Red dotted line

Xpm="32 3 2 1"

"* c #FF0000"

" c #FFFFFF"

" ** ** ** ** "

"**** **** **** **** "

" ** ** ** ** "

4. Once you have entered your XPM code then click on "Apply" at bottom.

5. In the "Option" box check the "Compile TYP" box.

6. In the "cgpsmapper" box click on "…" and browse to your C:\Garmin\Custom folder and highlight the "cgpsmapper.exe" file and click on "Open" and "C:\Garmin\Custom\cgpsmapper.exe" should now appear in the "cgpsmapper" box.

7. Now click on "START" and GENTyp will run editing your .txt file and creating a new .TYP file.

I have been doing some playing around and this is a cool program. I have a quiestion about BMP's for lines. Any suggestions on how to make a bitmap and how it should show up? A sample file would be nice.

I used genTYP to get started on making TYP files and it's a great product, but for more complex graphics I switched to this on-line editor.

It has a simple graphical editor and shows previews on different backgrounds so make it much easier to use.
