First to finds ?

it's hard - generally you just look for a cache that hasn't been found yet (like this one from 2001 that noone has been able to get anywhere near!)

After you find one of these caches that noone has found yet, you go out and make sure you are the first one there

If you get premium membership in Groundspeak they send you a notification email (sometimes... :D ) when a new cache pops up in your vicinity

Thanks, I always like looking at the unfound caches from near-arctic, or arctic Canada. Seriously. And Now there's a bookmark list for Ontario. Geesh, 17 on the list.

Yes, you can set up email notifications to be notified the instant a new cache is published, if you're a premium member. Many of the hounds I know even get text messages to their cell phone.

Or the cheapskate method is to search all caches in your State from the "hide and seek a cache" link on the main page, and all the newly published ones always come up first.

Lets see...

A plastic container placed 5 years ago way out in the boonies by someone who (apparently) has no other cache placements and no finds...

Golly gee, I just don't know how I can possibly contain my excitement... :(
