OK, I will be the first to admit that in recent years my ability to keep up with technology has seriously suffered, so I gave up trying to keep up. I have started to find that some of the stuff I decided not to keep up with is pretty fun to play with. I have decided paperless caching is going to be my new thing. My husband has an old Palm m100...will that work for this? If not, I need a decent PDA at a decent price to get started, anyone have one they'd like to sell to me? I think I kind of like the prism, but really anything that works, is in good shape and is at the right price I would be interested in. I looked mostly at Handsprings because of what a previous post talked about with USB's...I don't think I have a serial port and I'm pretty sure work doesn't want me playing with the IR on my laptop....can anyone help me please!!!!!!??????

An M100 would work, right up until you said you don't have a serial port, and don't want to mess with IR. The Visor Prism is a pretty nice unit, offers USB, a color screen, and 8 megs of RAM, plenty for paperless caching. But since it has a color screen, it's popular. Popular= demand, thus it can be pricey, at least more so than a greyscale PDA of the same quality.

I currently have about 40 different PDAs I'm in the process of going over and fixing up. I've seen most of the older models, and in truth, anything with 2 megs of RAM and PalmOS version 3 or better will work just fine. More than that, and its all gravy (YUM!). You need to decide with what price range you are comfortable and what options you want. It's just like buying a car!

eBay is a great place to pick up deals, from fixer-uppers to new, or try here (like you've done). So how much will you spend, and what options do you want? Answer that, and we can point you in a direction- just like caching!

I saw one for sale here for $22.00 delivered to your door. I saw a newer one sell on ebay for $10.00. I just bought a Palm IIIxe with 8mb and case and hot sync cradle for $29.00 delivered. I have also read that you can get a serial to USB converter so you can use the older units with a USB only computer. Check compUSA or something for those. I am waiting for mine to arrive  Good Luck Ken

We use a serial to usb converter for our m125 and m500. Just research which cable to get as the first cable we got didn't seem to like us! I bought it at NewEgg

I would go with what you have. If you bought a pricey one and then dropped it well you might be a little bummed out. But the older ones and the cheap ones on ebay work just fine for caching and could be considered almost disposable. If you drop it in a river you're only out $20-$30

Thanks for all the great info. It would seem to cost almost as much to buy a serial port to USB adapter as it would to buy an older model PDA with the USB already built in. That being said, anyone have one they'd like to sell to me? I thought I found a prism on ebay for $10...apparently a couple of others were watching it too... I have an offer for a Handspring deluxe with a backup module and a game for $15...problem is no manual or dock. Here is what I am looking for. Some sort of PDA with a USB connection. If it has a recharging cradle that would be awesome, but only if it has a wall plug in too. I am not really picky on the color, but would like something in awesome shape (no scratches or chips), something that works like it's supposed to and something that I can figure out how to use (so instructions would be great). I would like to keep it around $20-$30, but if something is out there that looks like it's exactly what I am looking for, I am willing to spend more (just don't tell the hubby). Can anyone help me out?

Don't pay too much to if there are instructions or not. If you get a Palm PDA you can always go to www.palmone.com and they should have a downloadable version. PDF rules. Not to mention that they are easy to figure out.
