kewfriend
Strangely, I always take my old GPS (GarminMAP12) skiing with me. I use an external aerial which pops out under my bonnet and at the end of the day I upload where I've been. I have a host of Waypoints for the bottoms of the lifts in the Three Valleys - surprisingly useful in whiteouts. Also it does of course log speed on the printout - which is always disappointing because I am always slower than I think I am! Grrr. Any other Geo_Skiers out there? Fancy a 'Ski-Meet'?? +Kitty Hawk
I found out about geocaching when researching what GPS to buy for my Skiing holiday. They are fantastic for skiing - I'm looking out for ski's this year that are a bit better at speed to see if I can get above my current record of 43mph - my ambition is to get above 49mph, my current mountain biking speed record. Also, for recording distance skied - you never know otherwise, and vertical meters skied. Adrian Quote Link to comment
The Spokes
We have used the GPS for Skiing for a number of years, and now and use the Edge as it is more accurate. Fastest speed last year was only 73 mph. Sarah did 58 and Laura 51 Katherine thought we were nuts and would not attempt it. We ski between 45 and 64 miles a day. There is a great web site where you can download your files and it can automatically generate your trip on Google Earth which we use and keeps a record of all your sporting events. Fastest on a bike 61.3 mph Skiing is faster. Its hard to get over 50 on a bike conditions have to be right, road, wind, and you have to feel good., On skis over 50 is easy, For top speed get out there early first up the lift and you will have the first icy run nicely pasted and no zaggers and boarders to get in the way, Quote Link to comment
currykev
The weather outside as I write this is more condusive to water-skiing caching. Quote Link to comment
2202
Jesus I was more than happy with my 58kph on blades in a tuck position over on Alpe D'Huez, but being 6'3" does add a bit of drag. Quote Link to comment
Teuchters
A couple of my caches on Cairngorm are accessible by ski where I work part time at weekends as a ski patroller. Although I carry my GPS with me on the hill, I don't have it on - too embarrassing at the speed I go.... Now if I was to place a few more, we could have a Skiocache event here in the UK??
