Noddy
With the year rapidly coming to an end, its time to start thinking about a TB race for 2007. We are busy working on plans and will accept suggestions although the basic plan has been derived. All caching teams are invited to submit one TB. All TB's must reach me by 31st December 2007, via plane, boat, snail or the banana express. All TB's must have a zero km rating. Hope to hear from anyone soon. Maybe they should start in Australia? +QFC
We are in. Will be sending TB down via Bannana express. When is the next coach leaving JHB? I am sure that Noddy meant 31st December 2006 Quote Link to comment
QFC
Please will all who are interested in taking part in the TB race submit their bugs on this page. This will allow us to keep track of which bugs have been entered and by which cachers. Don’t be too phased about a final name and what not we are currently just looking at the number of cachers that will be taking part. I appologise for any bugs (hehehe ) but the pages were thrown together in 5 seconds. Quote Link to comment

Does anybody know about a lift from Mpumalanga to the starting point? The bicycle is a curious vehicle. Its passenger is its engine. ~John Howard Quote Link to comment

Seeker Two
with reference to the rules : Multiple cachers colluding to achieve multiple hops is not allowed How about that a travel bug can only be retrieved ONCE by as specific player and placed ONLY once by specific player. Quote Link to comment
Noddy
Trackinfind, please activate you TB asap, it needs to get under starters orders. Quote Link to comment
Team_Farmers
how about extra points for pictures taken of the TB along it's journey? Quote Link to comment
QFC
with reference to the rules : Multiple cachers colluding to achieve multiple hops is not allowed How about that a travel bug can only be retrieved ONCE by as specific player and placed ONLY once by specific player. As we have seen from the previous race, this would cripple the race. There are many cachers out there, including us, that will not visit a cache again after the original find. The races (and this has been seen in the last two years) therefore relies on “more active race cachers” to help bugs through the pitstops or accross the distance. In the case of PE there are only 5 or so active cachers, so once a bug has been moved by them it would be stranded until an outsider visited the town to help the bug move further. This rule would help remove the problem of multiple hops and colluding by cachers but would destroy too much of the race. Thanks for the suggestion. Quote Link to comment
Noddy
The race got off to a very enthusiastic start at Prospector's Folly in Mpumalanga on the 6th January 2007. The cachers in the area were honoured to have the race start in their province. Each cacher took a few bugs to spread out across the area. I am sure that they will do the race justice, before they each move on to other provinces throughout the country. I really do suggest that if you haven't visited the area yet, you should look ahead. Mumalanga is a stunning province with amazing cache locations. Good Luck to one and all !!!!! Quote Link to comment
Team_Farmers
Good Luck to one and all !!!!! Thanks Noddy & QFC for organising! It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, especially for our first race! Quote Link to comment

QFC
Race Update A quick half month update on the status of the race: Four travel bugs have taken the lead, Mpumalanga Cache Adventures, Strandloper, Little Penguin Farmer and Message in a bottle are forging a path through the Mpumalanga vegetation for the other racers to follow. TB Cache Surfin' has caught a wave and is on the backs of the four leaders. Frustrated 4x4, Lazer Razer, Die Rooi Gevaar, Mickey Racer and TF Are we there yet? have also started moving and are finding nearby caches to the event to lay low. Unfortunately the other bugs are still stuck in the event. Some have been picked up, while others are still waiting anxiously to start their race. Thanks to the MP cachers for the help, it has only been about 10 days and it seems like some leaders have developed. If you have not yet picked up the bug from the event please do so, so that it can be archived. Please check out the race web site to track the progress of the bugs. Quote Link to comment
Team_Farmers
hey QFC, since this race is being done to the theme of highlander, maybe all future race updates should be done with a scottish acsent? ... and wouldn't it be cool if you wore a kilt while typing the updates ...........? +QFC
3 Days until the rules are final. Please have your say: The rules page. The Rules: * Only travelbugs recieved by QFC or Noddy by the 31st December 2006 will be entered into the race. * Only one travelbug may be entered per South African geocacher. * A safety period of the first 3 months of the race will be in effect. One these three months pass the travelbug with the least points will be removed from the race. * Once the race is over or a travelbug has been removed from the race it is the owner's responsibility to re-tag the bug and give them a new mission. * Multiple hops by the same cacher are not allowed. * Multiple cachers colluding to achieve multiple hops is not allowed. * Bugs can only collect points for a certain cache once. The first time is the only time that the bug will be awarded points for a cache visit. * Bugs can only collect points for a province once. The first time is the only time that the bug will be awarded points for a province visit. * Multiple long distance trips with a bug but the same or a group of cachers will be clasified as foul-play, and the bug may be penalised for it. * 14 day escape clause: Should a bug be stranded in a cache from 14 days or more, the cacher that placed the bug in the cache can move it. * Should two bugs at the bottom of the ranking have the same points at the end of the month, and the month is an elimination month then both bugs will be “chopped” from the race. * The race has been designed so that six bugs will remain on the last month of the race (December 2007). The number of bugs that will be eliminated in a given month will be announced on the forum and this site on each elimination month. * Bugs are to finish the race by the 31st December 2007, late finishes will not be included in the final ranking. * The judges/ organisers decision is final.
