Greets all, I just had a look at a icon list and I know the World Traveler Geocoin was a animated icon, The new Gas Can Geocoin produced by Scott also has a animated icon, see below, How many others are there and also did not think they were allowing them after the world traveler. Just wondering about this , THX, Glenn

According to the current policy;

2. The cost for a custom icon to be associated with your coins is a one time fee of $150. The icon design will need to be supplied to us in GIF format (non-animated) in the following pixel sizes: 16x16 and 32x32

I wanted to do an animated icon of a Cow, hurling...but it was not allowed. I beleive that was before the "World Traveler" coin. Wish I could share it with you all, but just can't...might be banned from here.

Why is this policy? The file is bigger and takes out more space or the icon takes longer to load?

Greets all reguarding this issue I think that if the pages with icons all animated would look VERY busy IE spinning yin-yang and others. Bandwidth for site in general and also load time of pages are both issues at hand. I certainly hope that this observation of mine causes no hardship for Scott who produced these coins and his icon and as it is a very subtle animation nothing spinning and or large file size. I myself would feel terrible if this icon would be subject to be changed just because I personally took notice of it. It was approved by Groundspeak and uploaded by them In fact the first sale page for this coin one of Scotts friends was the first to activate a coin and ALL had a chance to catch this movement of the (drip) when this information about the first coin activation came to light when it was posted the first coin had been activated. I just had taken notice of it yesterday while browsing inventory of pages. It's kind of ironic because I still don't have my coins in hand to actualy activate one myself due to the hold up of the other finishes beside the production of the black nickel version of the coin. Regretfully, Glenn :)

We submitted an orca breaching in the waves for the 2006 BC Geocoin icon and were politely pointed to the guidelines. That was our first coin so we were on the big learning curve.

It would be hard to imagine a page full of dancing, flipping, squirting, breaching, moooing, crowing and rolling icons. It's probably a good call by TPTB, but we could have so much fun with it ;) .

Perhaps those the desire to play with animation could start a thread called... 'If I Could Animate my Icon, This is What it Would Do" and we can enjoy each other's creativity!

Probably the only way we'll ever see them. Great idea!

I had an idea, how do you make it animate?

So I know of one trackable coin which has an animated icon. I am curious if anyone knows why that was the only one allowed. Or better still why we can't do animated icons? Anyone tried to get one done etc?

I believe the 'one' was an oops, but it wasn't pulled for reasons unknown. We asked for one in early 2006 (a breaching Orca) and were declined. At that time we were told that the 'one' was not precedent setting.

There is really only 1 with an animated icon!? I'd always thought there was a few more than that.

Yes, the world traveler on geoswag, but coins and pins have done quite a few that are on coincodes: The compass rose 2007, 2008 and 2009, a delaware and Gascans are also animated. It was being on coincodes that got me interested in the topic. There never seemed to be an official statement so I was curious if anyone got declined and why?
