Double-O 7
Hi, Looking to get away for a weekend of caching fairly soon. The plan is that we will travel to wherever we are going on the Friday night, cache all day Saturday around the area where we decide to stay, and then cache all day on our journey home (to the SE). My question is - which parts of the UK are particularly good for caching? I'm thinking about going to Devon, Cornwall, or maybe Wales. Any suggestions? Thanks Quote Link to comment

+The Hancock Clan
ooh Devon has some lovely caches..but of course I would think that because we live here There are some lovely places to stay too. Depending on the weather you can go coastal or inland towards the Moors area. Quote Link to comment
+Team S-J
Being the UK's slowest cacher I'd suggest the New Forest. Did 9 in one weekend with some fabulous walks. Quote Link to comment
+The Flying Boots
South Wales and Lower Wye Valley would be an excellent choice. Mountains for good weather, lower river walks, fields and woodlands for any weather and great caches of course in abundance which would not involve too much driving about. Quote Link to comment
+kewfriend
We are just back from hacking a load of caches in the New Forest: so much to choose from, wonderful views, horizontal rain, recalcitrant livestock, fords of unpredictable depths, good pubs ( Brews and Views are a nice bunch of caches ), many places to stay .... we'll be back ... and you can pop off into Berks on the way back to hoover up many of the easy ones or spend a half afternoon doing the SP series in Swinfield forest. That will knacker you!! Quote Link to comment
+Alibags
BERKS and BUCKs have plenty, especially the Grand Union Canal series. Most of which is in HERTS! Hmm.. I would suggest caching round Llangollen, where the 'shrops' event was held at the start of September. Lots of caches, a good mix of drive bys and longer walks, beautiful scenery... weather? LOTS of weather Quote Link to comment
+PopUpPirate
Mongoose's Oldham Way would need little planning and its brill http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?u=mongoose39uk Quote Link to comment

Oh yes, well worth a weekend visit, although I doubt you will have enough time to do all the local caches, some good cache setters as well in that area, Blorenges, Flying Boots immediately come to mind. I can recommend Wye Valley Ghost Train as my favourite. Now where shall I go this weekend ...... Quote Link to comment

Thanks Caching in Wales is great for fantastic scenery and exercise, but it can be difficult to hit lots of caches in one day due to many of them being up mountains, and having to drive miles around the mountains to get about. There are quite a few on Cadair Idris and other regions, so if you plan the route carefully you could still hit quite a few. Quote Link to comment

Double-O 7
Some great ideas here, thanks. I'm leaning towards Wales / Devon. Now for the planning I suppose... Quote Link to comment
