+SW7S+1D Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I wish there was a way (or maybe there is) to search area codes or zip codes from the GC.com site. I know there are ways to get the codes from other sites but you would think GC would have a search engine for area codes. I'm going to kentville NS this weekend so I normally go to Canada post, get an area code from there then, go back to GC and get some caches based on the area code I got from the other site. Is there a better way?? Marc Quote
Guyute1210 Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Is there a better way?? Marc I don't know if it's better, but here is what I do. I usually just open up google earth do a search on the particular town (or address) i would be visiting, and get the coords from there, and use that to do a search on. Quote
+Blue Power Ranger Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 (edited) never mind - misunderstood the question Edited October 24, 2006 by Blue Power Ranger Quote
+cattle dog Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I think its a premium member function, but I have the google earth download, and it shows all the geocaches right on the map. Make a route, send it gc.com and you have a list of caches! Quote
+chancerider Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Are you just looking to have a link within geocaching.com that you can input a city name to retrieve the ZIP codes? If so, then from the main page, select Hide and Seek a Cache from the column on the left. When the page opens, the top selection is for locating caches by ZIP code. Within that box is the Search for ZIP Code link. If I misunderstood your question just ignore me.... you won't be the first! Quote
crawil Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I think the OP is looking for a way to lookup the ZIP code for a given town in a given state/province without having to use an external system like the US Post Office. I know my ZIP, my work's and my parents. Anywhere else, and I have to start scrolling on a map to find caches if I am going to be away from home. It would be nice to be able to enter "smallville, KS" or whatever and have it return the ZIP or a list of locations and ZIP's to choose from. My $0.02. Quote
+chancerider Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 That's what I thought also.... I just use the look-up on the geocaching.com seek a cache page. Quote
+sweetlife Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 we use http://www.555us.com/555us_states.htm click the state then numerical and alphabetical list for each states zip codes comes up Quote
+team5150 Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Since you can't search by US zipcodes....could you possibly use google earth with the .kml extension to zero in on areas you want to search in? Quote
+SW7S+1D Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 (edited) Thanks crawil, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I would rather GC.com have a place to enter the name of a place & then it would offer up zip/area codes. Hope they add a feature like this soon! Edited October 27, 2006 by second wind, 7 sails Quote
+alexrudd Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Use the Google Maps built-in to geocaching.com (access one via a cache page) Quote
