Looking for Some Really Cool Coins!

Ello everyone,

I am helping out with the Temecula Geocoin Fest 2007 Event in February (event page TK), I was assigned to oversee the sidegames including the: raffle and 'guess the number of geocoins in a jar' contest

I am looking for kind donations to include in one or both of the raffle or the contest. So if you have left over event coins, a cool personal coins or any other coins you would like to donate, post here and send me an email.

All coins: trackable, non-trackable, limited editions, regular editions and micros are more than welcome!

The raffle and coin jar are not for profit, but will help to offset costs of running the event, room rental etc. People who donate will also have an opportunity to win a couple of event volunteer coins for their time and effort.

Thanks!!! :D

I will start with donating:

A complete set (4 metals) of the Pirates of Harriman III event coins for the jar

and another complete set for the Raffle

An 80 Caches Around the World Race 4 set for the jar

I have the trade in the works for an Avroair version 1 which I would donate too. (fingered crossed).

Well I am not at home nor can I look through my extra coins to confirm what I have, so I will get back to you on this but I am guessing I can throw in a matching set of my Copper and Gold Damenace Geocoin. I have to confirm that I have a set first.

Let me also confirm how this jar is going to work. You load the jar up with coins and you have to guess how many coins, the person closest wins all the coins correct right? This is where I want my coins to be used if at all possible.

Another question concerning the jar, do you have to be present to put in your guess, or can anyone participate?

Yes you have the concept down. There will be a large jar full of geocoins each caching name (not person) gets to guess how many are in the jar, the nearest (without going over) will win the jar. If more than one person guesses the same the jar is split.

You won't have to be present when the coins are counted to win, but you will have to be at the event to write your guess. :D

If you'd like them I can donate some of our error coins for the jar (since they might get scrathed or otherwise in there) and a couple numbered ones for the raffle. Send me an email to let me know if this is ok, and also your address! I can't make it to the event, but a chance to win a coin is very cool! Thanks for the opportunity.

Interesting....I may have a coin or two to throw in. I'll keep an eye on things.

Food for thought: Sounds like a lot of things are being planned - and most of them will cost $$.

With so many people traveling to this event and paying for airfare, food and lodging - there may not be a lot left over for "extras" like the t-shirts, raffle, coins-in-a-jar game, and the donation jar (which I believe was mentioned somewhere to help cover costs).

Again, just something to think about.

Actual out-of-pocket expenses should be minimal for the attendies at the event itself.

This may need to be corrected if I am off on anything, but here goes anyway...

Attending the event is 100% Free

There will be a souvenier package available by pre-order, and then a first-come, first-served basis. The package will include an event T-shirt, and attendee coin, and possibly some other goodies. The price is not determined yet. Once we get committed participation from the various vendors, we will know how low this pricing can be. (Yes, I said "low". The plan is to keep it as low as possible.)

Look for info on the poker tourney, and the coin challenge as we finish developing them...

Also, there is no donation jar at this event. I believe I talked about this, but it is in relation to the separate event on Sunday. That event is sponosored by the Temecual Valley cachers. We provide pizza and soft drinks, and ask attendies to toss in a few bucks to help us out. There are no deep pockets among us, all expenses are paid out of our personal pockets...but that is a separate event and thread.

is this event being funded by sponsorships from coin companies?

They will be funding a large part of this event for those that attend, yes. And those that we've spoken with so far and will speak to soon should feel a strong sense of ownership too. I'm really excited about some of the things that they have in store for those who attend. This will be an event not to miss, that's for sure.

As C4 has said, this event is 4 months away and in the early planning stages. A website will be available to the caching public once details are finalized. As of right now, NOTHING is finalized except the date and location.

Saying anything else would be speculating at this point.

I'm not sure on which thread to post this....

So, if there is no donation can, is this event being funded by sponsorships from coin companies? If so, then you should have no trouble covering costs.

Yes it is being funded by sponsors...but until all sponsors commit, and all expenses are known, we have to make sure our bases are covered...

We have a lot of activities planned, and lot's of goodies to go along with the event. Once we have our ducks in a row, we will post to both the event page, and the website that will be set up for the event

Any leftover money will be put into one of the already established, and PROVEN, geocoin relief funds...

Concise and to the point!

(I took too long typing my long post!)

Is there nowhere else in Temecula Valley besides the casino and winery? It seems that while having posh is nice, it is completely unecessary and money could be used for other things. I know, this is up to the "committee", I just don't think that cachers are really going to care as long as it is comfortable, dry, and has enough room. After all, it's about the coins, not a wedding or something of the sorts.

Yes it is being funded by sponsors...but covering costs still depends...

For instance, we based major sponsorship on what we thought our venue would cost...we are not keeping secrets, and all money will be accounted for, but I don't feel comfortable posting actual sponsorship amounts in public. The sponsors themselves may post if they wish, but that is not for me to disclose.

Well, as I alluded to in one of the threads, since the catering prices at the winery were VERY expensive...($45/head), we opted not to cater, but to bring snacks, and break for meals so everyone can fend for themselves.

We are trying to cover the costs of T-Shirts, event coins, coins for the Challenge game, and have money for snacks and drinks. If we could make the shirts and challenge coins free, we would, but I don't think that would work. We want to make sure everyone has a good chance of getting some, and if they were free, I'm afraid even among our great community, things would be taken advantage of.

Any leftover money will be put into one of the already established, and PROVEN, geocoin relief funds...

Thank you for the info. Cornerstone, if you need any assistance in event planning let me know, I have some insider information! I totally agree about disclosing sponsor info., no need, just glad to hear you're getting sponsors that will financially back the event.

Yes, we have other options. I just need to check the facilities first. I need to make sure that we have enough protected outside space for overflow...we are anticipating 2-250 people...but there are a LOT of cachers down here that will show up just because it's an event, and not care about coins. (Those one's can hang out outside. )

If anyone else would like to generously offer coins for the jar or the raffle please send me an e-mail. We are trying to include a couple of fun side activities for when people's eyes are crossed at see so many tracking numbers.

Edit: removed troll comment after I calmed down.

Nice avroair, rather offensive, and believe me I'm not even close to being fed. It seems reasonable to ask where money/coins are going when you're publically asking for them. But then again......
